Skoda

I posted the dimension differences a few posts back:
The Octavia is:

43cm longer
9.5cm wider
and has a wheelbase 4.3cm longer

The Octavia is 40cm+ longer than the 4 door Golf and has more rear legroom. It's only 10cm shorter than the Passat.

It shares the MQB platform, but then so does the Audi TT, VW Tiguan, and the Passat! Are we going to claim they are all the same car?

The MQB platform defines the engine and gearbox mounting points and how the control interfaces work. Basically everything up to the dash. From there back it varies between cars on that platform.

True, then again most mildly clued up consumers will assume the Octavia Mk3 runs along similar lines to the older A4 and A5 platforms used for the previous generations of Octavia/Golf etc which had common chassis dimensions.

MQB is the next evolution on from that.

My 'new' limited edition vrs baby/dog transport which ended up a very cheap swap from the fn2

Had it a couple of days now, it's going to the job perfectly, just needs a bit more poke and stiffening up a little really but I'll sort that out in time

Actually drive the TSI then come back and put a sad smiley next to it... I dare you. It's a lovely engine and very responsive, pulling hard from low down then singing the hp at higher revs. It's economical too; I easily got 50mpg on test driving the mk3 Octavia. I went 2.0 TSI Superb in the end but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

It has the benefits of the diesel and petrol engines (light weight, grunty, free revving, economical etc) with few downfalls. I even considered the 1.4 150ps ACT variant for the Superb but soon changed my mind for extra power. Check out the 1.4TSI owners' thread on Briskoda for real life stories on how it performs.

You were right :D

Picking up a 1.4 MK3 Octy in Elegance trim next week.

:D

Any suggestions for boot mats / liner as occasionally I'll be throwing a muddy bike into the back? Quick search throws up the "Hatchbag" which seems to cover the rear seats folded down which is neat, over £100 though...

Goes against the grain but I use a old sleeping bag fully opened, once it's too dirty gets put in the wash and back in the boot.

Picked my new octavia up yesterday.

Loving it so far the 1.4 engine is punchy and fairly economical and I have all teh toys :D

Not sure which Skoda you have but I used this site http://www.roofbox.co.uk/ for my Passat estate, was about £60 for a plastic boot liner, had a lip all way around it to keep any liquids in place.

I just tend to use a cheap fitted liner for the car, but without sticking the upper edges down (but tethered to a rear headrest)- then a rubber fitted mat on top of that.

Total cost maybe £40, most of that being the mat

The civic survived a mental, muddy, minging cocker spaniel for two years and still looked brand new with it all removed and hoovered

It'll be the Octavia VRS due next month, just trying to be organised ahead of my weekend bike trips, I like the sound of the liner with mat on top, means the mat can stay in the usual boot part permanently and the liner can be used for total coverage when needed.

Forgot to say I also used a cheap seat cover over the rear bench, hanging down to provide total coverage for the rear seat backs (as the liners only come about 2/3 of the way up). But if it's not for dog protection that's probably a bit ott.

I'm having a custom cage made up for the Octavia to keep him and his mud in one place (not relevant to you, but seeing as it's Skoda related)
