Went into a shop that sells pc games as a sideline today - I have not been in for some time , but as the better half wanted to go M & S shopping it was I thought a better alternative.

Summary - I bought the twin box set of Watchdogs and Assasins Creed Unity for £20 ( I have always fancied the former (& I believe that the issues that it had upon release have been resolved) and son in law likes the latter:))..

Got it home and after 45mins ( Disc- would probably have been quicker to download) I had installed Watchdogs and it asked for the key.

Supplied - to be informed that such was already being used by another user!!
- triple checked the code + cleared and tried again ; no joy - Already used:(

Took it back and was advised that it was not their fault - it might have been the case that some code-cracker somewhere had managed to use it!

My ? is what are the chances of a cracker having done this?
 
It wasn't that cesspit known as CEX was it? Those shady ***** have form for selling second hand Steamworks and Uplay games as new. It's the reason I'm barred from entering my local outlet. :D

No - was caught out by there once - so have not bought software there since.

Twas Game.
 
It might not be the shop's fault directly, but don't they have a duty to provide you with a working product by some law or act?

They should offer a refund or exchange, surely.
 
My apologies - I should have explained that I did take it back and got a refund.

What irritated the .... out of me was the time wasted, the petrol cost and the attitude which did get better in the end but to begin with was dismissive . I was strongly informed that it was not their fault and the explanation given was the infamous code breaker strikes again.
 
Just to lastly mention that I bought the game on line this evening :)

Turned out to be cheaper than the shop and it arrives wednesday.

Granted it was a fair few years ago, but the last time I had occasion to consult Trading Standards they spoke to me pretty much immediately.

Fair enough, I definitely wouldn't recommend TS as first call before speaking to the shop though, if they had told him to jog on then fair game.
