What have you done to your car today?

I dunno how hard the Porsche ones are to fit but the latest BMW ones are simplicity themselves - lift warm, tilt wiper back, slide off. Repeat to refit.

I have no idea how they are fitted to be honest, I wouldn't imagination its too complex. However, they where fitted for free.

My drivers side heated seat had stopped working so I spent some time this morning seeing if I could fix it.

So battery off to stop any airbag errors & wait 20 mins, then whipped the seat out & onto the dining room table.

Had to separate the rear of the seat from the base, then unbolt the base & sort out the mass of wires, couldn't find anything broken so I set about separating the base from the seat frame which left me with this-

I then dismantled the base including taking the fabric off the seat & then found the problem, all four wires had snapped about an inch from where they enter the heater pad.

10 mins with a soldering iron later after adding an inch or so to the wires I then re-assembled the seat & put it all back, my fingers are now sore from squeezing the clips together that hold the material to the cushion.

Worthwhile though as now I have a nice toasty seat within minutes of getting in the car. :D

Spent ages doing an intricate repair on the window motor because I ordered the wrong one and need the car fixed for Anglesey TD a week today. Got it done and working, then broke the glass.

FML, seriously.

I guess it was wound up onto the stoppers a bit too hard since I hadn't yet set the limit switches. Put it up and closed the door to check the gap, was perfect. Opened the door, couple of seconds later BANG glass all over the place.

Fortunately there was 1 door glass for Silvia s15 on the bay of e in Ireland, now on it's way express delivery, hope it arrives in good time and in one piece.

If it arrives broken then paypal will get my money back, no worries really. Be inconvenient in that I'd have to miss the track day, but I don't have an awful lot of choice right now.

£75 and an insurance claim would be a whole lot simpler especially if you need it done quickly

You won't have to miss anything, make a 'window' out of plastic sheeting shut in the door, and get in and out of the passenger side... :D

Not exactly advisable on Silvia with frameless doors. Not to mention when we do this for customers we state they must not exceed 50mph for a reason

Definitely bought a new one :D Order went through a couple of days ago, delivery time is going to be interesting. Technic Grey with Tech Pack, 18" Alloys, Winter Pack, Nav High, Convenience Pack, Alcantara Interior, Storage Pack, Safety and adaptive cruise. Can't wait now.

Just a quick thanks, I've not had time until reply to that post until now. I had actually bought the car before your post but I am really happy with it. I understand they can have timing chain issues, granted I have not looked into it in a big way but partly for one reason; if I did, it would just put me off one completely! Too late now. I have scared myself away from buying quite a lot of cars I've fancied over the years as I've spent way too much time researching beforehand and thus passing by things I've fancied. This starts up with no drama, no odd noises and as far as a 4 pot diesel goes I think it's quite smooth! Seems to sound fairly smooth and quiet at tickover any way. It's got stop start which I am not keen on, so need to remember to keep my foot on the clutch at lights and stuff which is a bit annoying :)

But it drives really nicely, excellent condition, I am going to swap a few bits of trim and maybe get a steering wheel refurb as a woman owned it for a while so some scratches from jewellery I expect. I love how it looks and it's very quiet and refined as far as my own standards go compared to the sort of cars I've had. I actually can see me keeping it, so to me that says a decision well made :)
