North Wales Police deliberately mow down dog

Cover up a mistake by saying they deliberately hit the dog instead? Read the comments on the NWP Facebook page, if the aim was to save embarrassment it's evidently not gone too well.

Hiding behind the line that it was reasonable and other avenues had been explored, etc.

Easy to tell the dog owners and their hysterical reactions to this.

Dog was a danger to the public could have caused an accident Police what they thought was reasonable measures to remove danger to public.

why did the dog cross the road?

best not, only upset the loonies who think their animals are like their children :p

bit harsh maybe? but if they exhausted all other reasonable means then I guess it was the only relatively safe option left

I notice the article mentions a foxhound. Now if I'm not mistaken then this isn't a domesticated dog, but a hunting dog.

I have to say if this is the case then it's potentially a lot more dangerous then we've been lead to believe.

Don't see the issue really? Dog was running loose and they tried to catch it and failed. Better to run it over before it jumps into the wrong lane and causes a pile up.

It's only a dog! Not a child.

If there wasn't a firearms unit to hand then I think they did what they had to do. The dog was creating a risk to other motorists. However a firearms unit would have been a better solution.

As much of a dog lover as I am (grew up with cats and dogs) I feel they were limited on what they could do and whilst not very fair on the dog they had little other choice.

Welsh mountain zoo is only 15mins away, surely they would have tranq guns and staff trained to handle a variety of animals.

Oh yes, i'm sure the Zoo will have had trained staff in at 3am.

If this occurred in the middle of the day, then i'm sure there would have been a different outcome.

It was just a dog. One they'd probably have had to have killed anyway, after biting someone. The uproar is a bit silly.

I ran over a large-dog sized animal the other day. Dunno what it was. Was following a freelander, who (annoyingly) didn't even break stride when straddling (or possibly mowing down) said beast, so my first warning something was amiss was a large puff of 'dust' (probably animal hair/fur) from underneath the Land Rover. Before I knew it, a sheepy looking creature was sliding along the road in the same direction of travel as me and making its way under my passenger-side wheels. Went straight over the bugger. Upon arriving home, I checked the car and found light-coloured hair attached to my bumper. Not a sheep then, so must have been a deer, goat, or dog. Was quite amused. Or bemused. Perhaps a bit of both.

So... how much of a *******ing did they get when they came back with a damaged bumper and dog in the grille.

Aside from being killed unconventional the dog was stuffed anyway due to the biting.

Police don't get projectile weapons as standard so go figure, they didn't think chasing a dog through traffic on foot all night was a good plan.

this

and they should make the dog owner pay for the whole disruption as he failed to control his animal in the first place
