Hey guys,

So I have been offered a good deal (or what I think is a good deal) and I am thinking about going for it. I currently own a 2009 2.0 petrol VW Scirocco.

Ive been saying to myself for the last year I need to get myself a new motor asap, its getting quite old now, lost substantial value and services/MOTs are starting to cost a lot more than they used to.

I have been offered an A class Mercedes A200d SE. Its a car I absolutely love the aesthetics of but know little about the engine and I am not going to get a chance to test drive the thing for a week or two. Has anyone got any opinions on this motor? or some advice for a first time leaser?

Sounds terrible.

But seriously, no-one will be able to offer any advice on the lease until you confirm the costs. You can get amazing lease deals sometimes, but I suspect this probably isn't one of them.

Exaggeration of the year! :D I bet that Scirocco still runs sweet :)

Surely the MOT will cost anything from £30 - £57 MAX as they cannot charge more...

Service.. Find a cheaper garage? but surely an mot and service once a year will cost you less than leasing a new car?

It's a 2009 Scirocco, not a 1989 one. If it really is that much of a nail then you've clearly not looked after it.

I'd also be interested to see what's happening on these MOTs.

I fail to understand how you think it looks quite old now yet they still manufacture and sell the same car (face-lifted).

Although in saying that, I can't believe people still buy these new and they have been around since 2006/2007.

Is it as good a deal as?

A colleague of mine has just put a deposit down on an A200d AMG line with premium pack and night package. He's paying £190 a month and £8k down.

Is it me or is that a hell of a lot of deposit?

It's for a PCP deal I believe over 36 months.

From hearing "non car" people's logic with stuff like this, I'd wager its worn tyres and brake pads etc

Be interested to see what the deal is, there's been a fair few on the A class lately.

I'd still have my Scirocco if it wasn't for needing something a bit more practical boot space wise, best car I've ever owned (was a 61 plate 140 TDi GT in Viper Green!).
That said while the facelift looks smart, the media package (RNS 310 I think it is) is terrible and years old.

The A200d SE is probably the most terrible Mercedes Benz on the market. Especially one with zero spec courtesy of a lease deal.

Woah slow down OCUK. First and foremost, Im no car expert. My knowledge is limited. Im not saying my scirocco is too old and doesn't run well, im just thinking maybe its time to change?

When I say the MOT and service costs costing more. Im referring to the work done.

Breaks, suspension, the usual...which is normal.

The deal for the merc is £170 a month, £1000 upfront fee 10,000 annual mileage.

It has all the spec, sat nav, blue tooth, heated seats, the lot.

Depends on the term, if it's 2 years then it works out at £4296. Does that seem reasonable to drive a base spec A class for 2 years?
I'm also betting those fees don't include VAT?

My last car got as far as 200,000 miles and 12 years of age before it first needed anything more than the £25 test fee for it's MOT...

It doesn't have 'the lot' at all.

Don't forget to add VAT to those costs.
On the spec - it's the base model so there is lots it doesn't have. Sat Nav (Garmin Map Pilot) is a £500 option.
