Cars which surprise you

People tend to forget quite how much more power you need to truly pull away from something at any sort of decent rate until hitting very high figures, at which point it's usually more a case of who likes their licence least

I'm not really surprised that a car weighing a couple of hundred kilos less, with a turbocharger but 80bhp down wasn't massively far behind

To be fair, given the massive gains and no fuss ability to remap the VAG turbo units, it was probably somewhere more like 180 to 200 bhp and with a shed load of torque low down too.

Had a play with a Macan S a few months ago, that was pretty quick. Only had to hold back a little bit in 2nd/3rd. Whilst not a huge car, it was still entertaining to watch something fairly large take off at speed

Those Polo's have a ko3s turbo as standard, so even a stage one map will see 210BHP. If it has a few other bits like full turboback, intercooler etc, it could go up to 240BHP. Hence why it would leave said BM for dust :o

about an hour ago , a BMW 520d , moved over from the outside lane into the middle lane for me ... that surprised me as most BMW don't yield to little old Toyotas lol

My first encounter with a v6 surprised me. My first was a 4motion mk4 golf. It wasn't very quick at all. Neither was the R32 or the couple 330i's I had. All sounded nice enough mind.

My S4 was surprisingly rapid though. I didn't expect it to be quite such an animal, despite its 4.2. Then getting absolutely gunned by an RS4.

My 335d did surprise me too though. It was mapped, but didn't expect it to be as rapid as my S4 was.

My car surprised me today when I found out the fuel cap is on the other side, after I pulled into the forecourt.

Yep, been there, done that with a new car :p
Followed shortly by minor panic whether the hose will reach or you need to drive off embarrassed!

.

How did you find the R32 overall? Was it the MK5? I'm quite interested in one despite the fuel consumption and road tax. :p

Cleaning my bike out front yesterday as my back garden/lawn is a Marshland & this lovely sounding motor came round the bend. I only caught the back of it but it was an Orange Ford that was Mondeo looking but seemed a bit bigger. Twin pipes out the back & the sound was a Rumble that sounded awesome. That surprised me.

Crown Vic? :)

Tesla Model S. Was next to one at the front of a queue at some traffic lights the other day. He was at the next set of lights before I was even out of first gear. I knew they were meant to be fast, but it was the first time I'd actually seen one. Seriously impressive acceleration.

Go test drive one they are utterly epic, Trying to arrange a lease of one for September it was that good :p

Not only I pulled up on the wrong side, I also pulled up on the wrong pump! I wanted premium unleaded and managed to stopped at the pump only does normal 95ron and diesel. So I left the petrol station and did a loop and went in again.

I'll never make that mistake again.

A Clio RS 200 gave me a shock a month back, quicker car 0-100 than the paper stats let on.

This a million times over, the amount of people who claim to have 'left something for dead' are either telling lies, the other driver wasn't trying or they have double the power.

The car that started my love of oil burners

Friend of mine had a rather tuned golf tdi hybrid bigger injectors etc but in my eyes still a rattle diesel

Put the mapped Leon Cupra R I was driving to shame bloody impressive
Mapped diesels all the way for me now

Silver Astra vans seem to surprise me at the moment. Always the silver ones. Or rather, the drivers treating them like they're F1 cars do. The amount of them that I've seen lately going at stupid speeds, tailgating and driving like a total **** is crazy.
