MOT @ Halfords - Just gonna try sell me stuff?

My MOT is due in just over a month, going to get it sorted this week.
See Halfords are offering an MOT for £30. Not an MOT is just an MOT. I'm confident the car will pass without any issue.
Do Halfords use the MOT simply as an excuse to try and sell you other bits and pieces or will I be quite safe booking and that's it, MOT complete?

Short version:
Anyone here had an MOT at Halfords and did they seem to know what they were doing?
 
I took my car there (2006 Focus), left it with them for an hour and a bit, came back and had a new MOT with 3 advisories.

All 3 advisories were useful and corrected pretty quickly.

Didn't do anything apart from an MOT, and I'll probably keep taking it there as long as it remains the cheapest option.

I did kinda think "Well not everybody can just get a license to do an MOT" - but you know, somebody letting me know their experience is always useful :)
 
First MOT i ever had was at halfords, and they correctly found the advisories on my car and only sold me the bits I needed (new numberplates as mine were illegible)
 
Halfords autocenters have nothing to do with the retail store - so don't let the reputation put you off. They bought the Nationwide Autocenters brand a few years ago - who, IMO were one of the better chains of fitters and Halfords Autocenters are still fine. I'd certainly take my car there before Kwik Fit etc
 
I've used a few halfords auto centres for mots now and don't even consider elsewhere. Service is always more than fine (even made me a brew as I was waiting with the car last month). Advisories are always fair and the few failures I've had have been the same, and they don't get shirty should you want to rectify issues elsewhere instead of with them.

All in all especially given that they're cheaper than basically everywhere else absolutely can't complain.
 
I always use Halfords Autocentre, never had a problem with them, they even repaired my rattly exhaust heatshield last time free of charge without me asking.

Can't fault my local one in Worksop.
 
I've recently used one for the first time for a change of tyres, thinking what could possibly go wrong with a simple tyre change...

Snapped bolt in one of the hubs. To be fair to them they resolved it without question two days later after sourcing a new hub for my car. They did say that whoever had the wheel off last time over tightened it but they didn't argue and resolved the issue.

I'm not sure how I feel after the event with regards to going back but please it was just resolved at no cost to me.
 
GF had hers done at Halfords last time and was done very quickly with no issues with the correct advisories( rear tyres getting close to legal limit, which they were). No hard sell on the tyres either as we wanted to shop around, but funnily enough they turned out to be cheapest for them as well so took it back to have the tyres done there as well a few weeks later :p
 
We take our Mini to the Halfords Autocentre round the corner and they have always been excellent.

The only problem we've had so far is having to get a rear lamp unit direct from Mini as the bulbs are soldered in :confused:, so Halfords couldn't provide a replacement. However, they were perfectly happy for me to take the car to Mini and get a replacement, which Halfords then fitted before issuing the certificate. No extra charge for that either.
 
I had my F10 MOTd at a Halfords, had no issues with their advisories (it was due rear brake pads and new tyres anyway).

I'd take it back there without question, was one of the better MOT experiences that I've had!
 
My last MoT was at Halfords, would have taken it to BMW but they couldn't fit me in with the time frame I wanted (I think they were both £30).

No problems with the service at all, very well mannered and professional. One advisory on a point that Halfords wouldn't have been able to correct.

If they just advised her, weren't pushy about the work needing to be done there and then and the things were indeed due a look at then I'd say that was good service.
 
Just to go full circle.
Car booked in for MOT today at 4:00pm. I arrived five minutes late, really friendly guy on reception, no problems - car went in immediately for the MOT. I went for a walk, sat in the reception for about fifteen minutes, then the car was finished.
Two advisories - Repaired chip in the front windscreen (apparently that will always come up now, even though repaired) and one of the front discs is scored, but no need to replace at the moment as plenty of meat on pads etc.
For the cars first two MOT's there was an advisory on "misting from front offside shock" - but that wasn't noted this time.

So all in all, good experience and for £30 cannot complain (guess even better if they do any cheaper promotions).
 
My Car is up for MOT this month. Living in Northern Ireland means I need to take the Car to a 'test centre' who are run by the government. Why is it different in England? Often wonder that.

You still can go to a dedicated test centre here in England, but I don't have much faith in them. There is one near where I work, which shall remain unnamed, but they will give almost anything an MOT without checking it properly.
