Why do we hate cycling in this country?

Here'one that annoys me when out on the old bicycle.

One way systems.

It's daft to expect cyclists to do an extra mile up hill because the town planners aren't smart enough to build contra flow cycle lanes.

Our "one way streets" round here have a small plaque under the no entry sign stating "except for cycles":-

I wouldn't mind cycling a bit but I just don't have the time for a 5 minute journey to turn into half an hour first thing in the morning.

O and on top of that, what if you go out on a night out, you planning to cycle back home drunk lol? o wait we can get tube back home. o no, they close early and its not 24 hours.

What now when all vehicles are banned such as buses and taxi's...

How the hell can you turn a 5min car journey into a 30 min cycle?

My 30 min drive actually only took me 25mins on the bike.

im about to move closer to central london and ideally i can cycle and get to work quicker then the bus but cycling down busy central london in the morning and coming to the office sweating with no shower?

brilliant just brilliant.

10 years ago i could drive to central london and park for a reasonable price.

now its like £10 an hour to park in central london...

Might as well uber it to work. cheaper..

Second most stupid comment that ever comes out in these threads. Just waiting for the helmet and reflective gear now to call House.

@Op: I doubt you're going to get a rational debate on this in GD.

why is it? how can anyone be against training? and why should you not be insured against damage to a 3rd parties property?

it is when hardly anyone drives.

whats your point? you want them to completely ban vehicles yea? whos gonna supply delivery to the thousands of stores and offices in the city? a man on a bike? lol

good luck delivery a new office desk by a bloke on a bike...

Hardly anyone driving would be almost a utopia.

I'm not sure how you leapt to this conclusion, that all vehicles would be banned.

1 - there aren't too many cyclists on the road, there's too much traffic on the roads. Lets have a push to get as many cars as possible off and replaced by bikes.
2 - Cycling can be fun when the weathers bad, it really isn't the end of the world if its rainy and windy. It isn't weather dependent at all, some people are just too soft.
3 - What if you're not feeling 100% and you're driving? I don't really see the point of this remark
4 - Cycling you can't be sick? Eh?
5 - Not nearly enough. Lets crack on and make the roads even more cycle friendly, driving (in cities) more painful, hopefully that way we'll get more people onto public transport.
6 - It really isn't hard to provide secure bike parking, my work does it, all the businesses round here do.
7 - The sooner we get rid of the car entitlement attitude the better.

Then I would say that London's best isn't yet good enough.

Let me say that of the infrastructure is there cycling os good

If you are feeling rough driving isn't really physical. Cycling 10 miles.. And not being able to get home if you get worse isn't worth it.
Cycling to work when weathers bad isn't fun!

It's just never really going to be worth it, I'll always own a car. I couldn't survive without my car in a reasonable way. I haven't the will power to look at my car sitting there waiting to be driven with rain and wind and think.. Great day for cycling to work!

For me it would. It's not the journey but faff around it. Showering, changing of clothes, laptop bumping around locking bike up.
It soon adds up

Which is why I'd rather there was a drive to make public transport useable/pollute less/be cheaper.

We're not all in London with access to the (excellent) tube!
