So he broke a law. Ends up in jail.

Do we do the same for our citizens stupid enough to drink in an Arab state?
 
A. Don't go to North Korea if you are American

B. If you do, certainly don't take down one of their national propaganda banners.

I am not saying what North Korea have done is right, but the guy is a complete idiot.
 
bit silly to go there as a westerner

but at least he's not getting his head cut off or getting stoned to death for a similarly trivial offence as per some other parts of the world
 
Interesting description of what the blue represents. North Korea's commitment to peace and friendship. I think it's safe to say they haven't quite lived up to that thus far. :rolleyes:

He won't be in jail for 15 years. The U.S will say "plz plz we can haz prisoner?" for a bit, North Korea gets Kim's Scotch Whisky sanctions removed or whatever, he goes home, Kim Jong Un gets his favourite single malt.

The North Korean government is so absurd that what I've just suggested could literally happen.
 
Its not like America can even argue its an unjust sentence because they have people serving life sentences for stealing a cookie or a vhs tape.

They are absurd but I think they are together enough to organise single malts in diplomatic bags. They certainly seem to be getting him all the cheese he reputedly craves. It's hard to imagine there isn't a healthy black market on the China/NK border.

Or by 'single malts' did you mean 'real world low level sanction concession'.
 
He went to their country and broke their laws, he knew what he was doing, took the chance and now he's paying the price. I have zero sympathy for this idiot.
