Two explosions at Brussels airport

Makes me wonder how long until this starts happening in Sweden. They have a similar slum situation to Belgium in certain areas.

Whats going on with these metro explosion reports? Seems very quiet on this front, coverage is all about the Airport. Fingers crossed its OK.

Think the news is only just coming out. They'll have caught up in about 15 minutes.

Does make you wonder - how many more will there be today?

Sky news showing pictures of what look like casualties outside a metro station, and also reporting an explosion there...

I hope to god that this is not the work of the two guys who escaped during that raid the other day. It was pretty sloppy work from the police not to cover the back of the building.

We invaded Iraq at the slightest hint they had chemical weapons, how many people have to die before we clear out ISIS?

It's pretty embarassing really, NATO responded immediately when the USA was attacked on 9/11, they did nothing following Paris and now this.

This is a highly simplistic view. 7/7 had nothing to do with ISIS, just because we make them disband does not mean it will be the end of Islamic terrorism.

Doesn't matter if we are in the EU or out of the EU, Britain always wants to make a show in the world stage and will continue to stick its nose where it's not wanted. Cannot keep bombing the Middle East/North Africa without consequences.

9/11 and the western nations' response was the catalyst for these groups to become so relevant again. The Arab Spring was a shot in the arm and thanks to the instability particularly in Syria led to the formation of ISIS. I cannot think of one country that has experienced western intervention since 9/11 to be in a more stable state today.

At the same time, the clear and present threat of politically motivated extremist attacks, using Islamic theology as the moral justification for atrocities, cannot be denied. Branding the entire religion serves nobody's purpose but the right-wing (in my opinion).

Both of the above need to be curtailed. At present we just seem to be in an inescapable spiralling of the situation and I don't really see a light at the end of the tunnel. In the meantime, citizens are getting caught constantly in the cross-fire (to whit, what is happening in Brussels, what happened in Paris and not to mention that hundreds of thousands who have perished in the Middle East as entire cities have been brought to rubble).

It is a truly terrible beginning of the decade so far. My heart goes out to the people in Brussels and has nothing but utter hatred for the perpetrators of the violence, wherever they come from.

While I understand people want to display their shock and anger at the events unfolding in Belgium, I urge you to do so in a calm way. This is not the thread, neither the forum to be denouncing specific religions or cultures, and won't be tolerated. I also understand that this may have influence on public opinion with reference to the EU referendum.

Again, I urge you to put forward points that are directly related to the thread topic, the attacks taking place in Brussels, and not drag this thread off topic or drag in arguments from other discussions.
