Egypt plane hijacked

I went on a day trip to Cairo in 2011, all the security there seemed interested in was that I had a ticket, they didn't even bother to ask about a passport, although I did have it ready if they had asked.

A passenger took a selfie with the hijacker, which doesn't surprise me at all these days. Why would you not punch the guy instead though?

Err... Doesn't a selfie involve taking a photo of yourself? That's just a photo take by someone else of a passenger and the hijacker... :p

Why is it utterly stupid? He's generated some rapport with his captor/hijacker - something that combat after capture training tends to encourage (though to be fair posing for a selfie wasn't specifically in the lessons I had).

If it was real and the guy wanted to detonate it then they're a bit screwed anyway, being friendly isn't really an issue - if the 'bomber' was angry/tense etc.. he'd not have been able to approach him in the first place.

^That's what I thought. We have no idea how the discussion on the plane went. Maybe it was clear to everyone that he was quite deranged and had some serious issues regarding his ex wife. Maybe it will turn out that they all knew it was a fake belt in the end, they all sympathised with him and had a good chat and hugs (after the initial terror that they were imminently going to die :p)
