Air Compressor

If it all goes wrong and you need me to call into their office and kick off let me know :p

Fancy popping in to kick off for me? Turns out next day delivery isn't next day delivery after getting a text from DPD saying that it's not going to arrive today.

Do your self a favor and get a 50L one. the 25L will be forever running.

I have a 3HP 50L compressor and it will run an impact gun and air ratchet ok but it does kick in quite a bit. It's fine for the occasional use but a 25L would have no hope.

Don't waste your time with a 25L tank with low flow rate... they're not worth it.

50L minimum & look for one that has a good throughput as that makes a HUGE difference.

I'd expect to pay £150-200 minimum for anything worth buying.

I was thinking about picking up a cheapo job for dusting out the pc rather than rubbish canned air. Any recommendations?

I got a 50L one off ebay for 90 quid 3HP - 9.6CFM - 115PSI, does the job for me and use it to dust off my PC (quite powerful) pump tyres etc.

I use an impact gun with it and its powerful enough to remove car wheel nuts etc so that will do me. They are fine for light home use and mechanic DIY jobs.

SGS manufacturer them in the UK. See the guy above me mention this too.

I would be very doubtful of that. If i order 100 of them from China I can have any colour I want, screw fit a different gauge and slap a sticker on it saying made in UK.

Not knocking Chinese made ones they do the job as long as you know what job they are suited for.

50l sounds quite big, could I get away with something smaller? Will only be used every couple of months

That air compressor is going to be good for nothing more than pumping tires and blowing dust off things.

Most air tools needs at least 4.5scfm @ 90psi, which is basically a the measurement of constant airflow.

I have an upright 30gal 150psi belt driven compressor that drives pretty much everything. It's 5.5scfm @ 90psi. Attached to it is a 50ft reelhose. If you're considering painting, then you should also attach a filter inbetween as compressed air gets a lot of moisture in the tank, and you wouldn't want this in the air when painting. You should also empty the water out every few days or so.. Just open the drain valve at the bottom, let it blow out all the water, and then close. TBH if you're going to do it, then may as well do it properly.. A tiny compressor like that is not going to cut it, for anything more than small hobbies. I picked it up new for just over 300bucks, its considered budget in terms of a compressor, (as in made in China) but footprint wise it doesn't take up much more room than a small one. Just taller obviously. Personally i would spend the extra. I also have a pair of ear muffs (like budget again for $10) that i keep near by, for when i open the drain valve, as that is noisy. Also whenever i'm using the airgun. Just to keep my hearing intact. Also keep a handy pair of protection eyewear. Whenever you're blowing crap off things, it can really shoot fast in all directions.

I've been using one for fifteen years for cleaning computers. They're very handy. It's only 6L but perfect for cleaning computers and inflating stuff. Forget anything else.

Most likely not no, you need a big ol' tank for buzz guns, they'll suck the life right out of it. I was looking at it as an option and after speaking to some people it won't be enough. I bought an electric buzz gun instead.

The problem with the electric impacts are that they're frickin HUGE !!!! hard to get into parts of the engine bay. The only one i've seen that's worth a look is the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Cordless, which delivers upto 700ft lb. But that's not a cheap piece of kit.. Actually, it costs more than my entire compressor and premium air gun ! That being said, if you want something that can actually replace air to save on space, and are only looking for impact, then its worth a look.

Agree with the sentiments of most of the posts.

I just got a Clarke 100l 3hp jobby from Machine Mart on their "VAT free" offer. I'm using it to run a Chicago Pneumatic 1/2" stubby impact wrench and it does a great job. It's large and noisy (not belt driven).

It was £270 all in but I think worth it (working on my RS4 engine pull) and that little gun has 610nm of torque to it.

I also bought an ebay 50ft air line and and in line moisture trap and oiler which seems to work well. I will use it to spray as well but I'll need to get another line that isn't full of oil. One for tools, one for spraying.

Seems to also run fine off of an extension lead, no fuses blowing thus far!

Nice, where did you get from out of interest.

I've got this at the min:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wolf-Dakota-150psi-Cylinder-Compressor/dp/B007VOLOHG

Bit big but does the job, wouldn't mind a standup version though in future.

Some have issues with the these larger motors tripping domestic electrics but mines been trouble free so far.

I live in the US, & we have an el cheapo tool store called Harbor Freight. After coupons and what not, I think i paid $330. But to be fair, their compressors are actually not bad quality at all. I have no complaints from this whatsoever. Its motor is quiet. The 30gal tank & air output is large enough to do pretty much everything that a home diy'er throws at it. I normally cringe and steer clear by a country mile at cheap tools, but this badboy actually is one of my better purchases. Anyway, I'm sure the 'real' Chinese manufacturer sells to the EU. So with a little hunting around, a similar deal could be probably found over there.

Ah missed your location, hear about Harbour Freight a lot on US forums and youtube vids. Seems you can get some gems amongst all the usual chinese tat.

So what a ballache this has been.

Called on Tuesday to confirm if I ordered, that the item would be with me on Wednesday and was told yes as long as it was before 4pm. Then get a mail saying it was delayed and won't be arriving on Wednesday.

Complained on their Facebook page wall after customer services simply said sorry, and they deleted my post and blocked me from their page.

Finally arrived 5 minutes ago (phone lines are now closed) and someone has played football with it and it's therefore damaged.

SGS can have it back and I'll go elsewhere. Lousy company with no customer support it seems.
