Who Negan killed in the season finale?

Well I'm back after my hiatus from mid season break and caught up with the show and can't say anything improved at all. As it stands it's the only semi decent zombie thing out there and I liked the genre before it was cool so doomed to watch this poorly written sloppy Joe of a storyline.

Writing is by far the biggest failure of this show which is inexcusable seeing how there already is a solid story arch. They have added some good characters like Daryl and Carol but there's been plenty of lemons too and even those two felt very compromised towards the end of the season. In fact that is the biggest flaw, writers simply change the behaviors to the whim of how they want to change the story with poor transition and execution. This is simply not even a patch on other successful shows that AMC produced which is a shame since there's some great acting chops in the mix here who feel very wasted and one dimensional.

Pretty sure Negan said one of you has to die before commencing his rather boring speech. I really like JDM as an actor and suppose he acted well enough but I was actually very disappointed by the portrayal compared to the comic. There he was a rather larger than life almost crass character with a booming voice, but the delivery here seemed very flat. Maybe I expected more after his Comedian performance in The Watchmen but as Negan he falls short for me. The cliffhanger didn't help as it took away too much from his speech and his impact as a character after building him up for so long. Also a very cheap and frankly disrespectful decision towards the viewers to do that, this isn't Game of Thrones but in all honesty that was more of an executive team decision than writing one.

Also this maybe an odd one but I found JDM too scrawny? I know it's zombie apocalypse and all but he just looked too skinny for the role, then again I'm maybe expecting too much after seeing him in Watchmen.

Anyway my money is on either Glenn or Abraham getting the bat. I actually dislike the portrayal of latter too, he doesn't seem like a military man at all, merely a caricature of some kind. Which is strange seeing how the same actor did well in Band of Brothers. If I had to pick a wildcard I'd also pick Rosita, her character is pretty pointless and at this point now redundant apart from making Abraham even more angry should he survive.

Did I miss something? Why is everyone trying to work out who survives? As far as I had gathered he literally told everyone he wasn't going to kill anyone, just beat "the holy hell" out of one of them.

I think it's reasonable assumption that a well established member of the cast will be Lucilie's first on-screen victim. Lauren Cohan, Andrew Lincoln & Norman Reedus have already done little snippets saying how rocked they were by the last scenes. Reading between the lines that probably means it's the end of a long standing cast member. The $64,000 question is who or more to the point, how are they going to keep it a secret when they begin filming season 7? It would be a bit of a cop-out if they chose Aaron, while his character has been building slowly he's not really one of the original group.

My money is on Abraham or Aaron.

More to the point is where did Sir Lancelot and his buddy pop up from to save Carol? I can't remember whether there has been mention of other groups in the series as yet.

Hmmm what to think, it has left the doors open for next season, but I initially thought Steven Ogg was Negan, I heard his voice and immediately thought Trevor from GTA V which of course he plays, a character like that would have been an awesome addition to the show. But as you can guess I've not read the comics so maybe that wouldn't fit with the story.

The constant probing for a route to hill top just seemed daft they knew full well who the road blocks were and no one had heard from 4 key members of the group for a while yet the head out on some mercy mission.

Anyway weakest closing to a season for me enjoyed it but not enough moments of hey they can't do that ? can they , did they (talking about the writing and shock moments).

Oh well season 7 here we come.

Again, if it is Aaron or a lesser known character, it will be a massive cop out and I suspect will annoy more viewers if they chose one of them. Not only that, but given that Rick and co. were in the wrong by being the first to start the attack and "executing" the survivors when they were asleep, they need to suffer big time for that + the writers have to make us hate Negan with a passion so as to keep us watching in the hope that he will get a horrible death.

As for the pair from Tron :p

Comic spoiler:

They are from a group called the Kingdom, they will play a big part in the next season, essentially they will team up with the Hilltop and Rick's group to take on Negan and his small army

EDIT:

TBH, if I were Rick, after the 3rd road block, I would have gone back to the first one as they probably would have had a better chance that way.

I must admit that crossed my mind at the time as well.

Pretty much a given Rick survives aside from everything else Negan was all about teaching him a lesson which he can't really do if he kills Rick.

The others you mentioned, assuming they don't contrive it, are pretty much ruled out by what he says in the final minute or so along with most of the women.

If it is Glenn they really should have shown it and got it over and done with - would be incredibly weak to drag that out at this point in the show and completely finish the show for me - with all the monkeying around the writers have done at this point I don't actually care if they killed the whole lot of them which isn't a good place for a show to go.

Have to confess I was feeling this way by the end of it. The build up was good, but the ending felt contrived. Even the 'eeny meeny' stuff was false because it's clear it won't be a genuinely random choice, there's lots ruled out for one reason and another. Eventually I felt 'I don't care who anymore, just get it over with already'. So the cliffhanger just diluted it further.

Most of the second half of the season was contrived storytelling to engineer dangerous situations just for the sake of it. Most of the disasters didn't need to happen. Even the road trip with Maggie was the same. After the second road block a smart group would have realised they were being set up and returned to Alexandria where they at least had medical supplies.

Rick's group are supposed to be veteran survivors, but most of Season 6 was spent making rookie mistakes contrived for the purpose of fishing out a story.

But I guess everyone is talking about it and speculating so the audience manipulation worked. But it's not a stunt they can keep pulling.

I desperately want Carol to be a re-born Bad-ass. Now that she's seen Morgan - "Stick-man" Jones kill someone to save her, I'm hoping she will she that people will kill for "family"

Agreed Negan has to kill a long standing member to generate enough hate from the fans to push the story forwards. Big up to Andrew Lincoln for having the look of a broken man throughout that scene.

Andrew Lincoln is by far and away the best actor in this show, I will be good to see Rick get his mojo back next season an stick it to Negan, but I suspect most of next season will be the build up to this. Not got a clue whwere the show goes after this new plot device, must try not to look.

So far, given the circumstances and what Rick's group have done, I thought Negan was a pretty reasonable guy. It was only fair that they got punished. I'm suprised he didn't just kill them all, but I'm guessing that's because he sees them as a commodity.

Also, the looks on all their faces was priceless, especially Rick's. They ****** up, they ****** up bad. :D

It's going to be an interesting 7th season that's for sure, there's absolutely no chance Rick is going to work for someone else, he likes being the alpha too much.

I'm not sure if they'll go on the road again or he'll somehow convert others to fight against Negan.

Morgan is defo gonna massacre next season. That ep was also the first time I heard swearing in a twd episode 0.o

Actioned. Warning again posted below. Official stickies are being reviewed currently.

I can see how people are confused but to clarify a few things:

1) Speculating on a current or future event based on having looked at the current or future cast list, having read a book or comic, having heard or read anything outside of having simply watched the most recent US or UK (depending on forum) episode - USE SPOILER TAGS and warn about the nature of the spoiler (e.g. "book speculation", "actor interview", etc).

2) Responding to anything in a spoiler tag - USE SPOILER TAGS and provide the same warning as above, be it in the form of quoting the original post or with your own warning.

3) EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN POSTS. If you are unsure USE SPOILER TAGS and WARN ABOUT THE NATURE OF THE SPOILER AS ABOVE.

4) Given all the warnings that have already been given and the repeated requests by the mod team for people to be more considerate when they post anyone stepping over the line should expect to receive a firm response.

If there is anything still unclear please take this opportunity to ask and I will respond.
