I don't understand why people are anti-facebook, you don't have to share anything on it and things you do share you've got control over. It just seems a bit weird like people who don't have internet access/use e-mail or don't have a mobile phone.

As someone who has never subscribed; I am resigned to the fact that seemingly everyone else is.

It’s depressing how the use of smart phones competes with actual social interaction. I despair when down the boozer and see how quickly people can get caught up with it.

that is a different subject though, facebook enhances social interaction it doesn't necessitate you have to spend all day on a smartphone

Short story short. Got to 2nd interview and the interviewer asked for access to my Facebook account. When I told him that I didn't have one he basically called me a liar and ended the interview.

I've heard that happening in the US but never in the UK - what company was it?

And this is the problem.

only for people who refuse to adapt to new technology when the rest of the world uses it... like people who don't use the internet despite so much information being online, companies switching to paperless billing etc..

I was close to deactivating it but was worried I might miss out on the odd event. In the end I just hid posts from all the stupid people. It's actually been a lot better.

And this is the problem.
Why is something you can choose not to even read if you dont want to a problem ?
You choose your "friends" so surely its your own stupidity for allowing it to feed you their crap.
Its like blaming a telephone for nuisance calls or a door bell for jehovah's witnesses.
Bunch of weirdos...:p;):D

"Hi, I'm on holiday, and look, a pointless picture of my cheap cocktail! Yay!" x 10^9

not in the slightest. It shows what you want it to show. so If that's what your feed is showing, well it reflects badly on you.

a) don't befriend idiots, or if you want them on there for some reason hide all their posts.
b) secondly use it how you want. Be it organising stuff, photos, or a news feed, following companies etc.

News is what I mainly use it for, over 90% of my feed is news articles of stuff I'm interested in, rather than just depressing or news I'm not interested in from normal news sources. it's also great for organising stuff, organised many holidays on there. everyone can see what everyone has to say, post pictures, videos, links etc. far better than other forms of communication for such things.

Yeh never used it for years then um did. Loads of crap on there really. Almost like people think they need to post certain things in order to do Facebook...

Then I tailored it to my interests. Followed people and subjects I am interested in and removed, blocked etc those I wasn't.

It is what you make of it.

Exactly. Which is why I use it for business and nothing else. My friend-friends know how to send out the bat signal, if there's ever a need. :p

It's not a problem as I don't use FB. Simples.

I gues s the "no FB crowd" get their narcissistic happiness out of telling everyone they don't use something considered socially normal. "edgy"

Socially normal? What's socially normal about having a FB page? Only a narcissist would think it's normal. Normal people would shun it.
