RX8 R3 - opinions?

yup, tell me more about the short trips, engine flooding, good fuel economy etc :D I know how they are, I was only joking in my original post, it would sadly not suit my driving right now. I do love the way they look though and maybe, one day I'll take the risk and run one for a while

Engine warm up time is only 2 mins so flooding is hard to do on a short trip.

thought it was more around 10 mins? so say with my current car, I often get out, move it and park it, whereas with a rotary I'd need to let it warm up before switching off.

2 mins is for preventing flooding. 10 mins would fully warm the engine. An additional benefit of the R3 is it has a light that goes out when the engine can be turned off.

cool! learned something new I guess! :) R3's are around 5k now, give it a year and they'll be 4k :o

The early ones are cheap. I'm personally aiming for something like a 2011 with less than 30k miles. With regards to the warm up time obviously on a cold day it will take longer, but there isn't much engine to heat up so that's why it is quite quick. There is even a YouTube video of an S1 being moved from cold out of a garage onto the drive, turned off and then turned on again. Warm up time was less than 2 mins.

Can easy do short trips, just remember the proceedure, from memory hold 5000rpm for a few seconds and switch off with foot on the pedal.

I've done a few short trips in mine and it's perfectly fine. The car swallows fuel even on idle so leave it just a couple of mins and there's no issues.

19mpg hitting the 9/10k limit is worth it, very rewarding drive especially when it shakes it tail.

19MPG when hooning isn't really realistic from an RX8 surely? I would honestly expect it to be low teens?

Even so, the trouble is that it struggles to hit 30MPG even when you try and drive like a nun... :p

By all accounts RX8s do 19/20 mpg no matter how they're driven, so you may as well thrash them everywhere. :D

The RX-8 is deeply frustrating. It's like finding a stunning woman who really likes you, has all the right qualities, likes the things you like and is proper wife material except that she drinks more than George Best and only has a few months to live.

Owned one of these many years ago - back when they were actually worth something.

I think the R3 is very good looking. Way better than the pre facelift (which is the one I had).

As most have already pointed out the cars fuel useage is terribly poor / high. I'd be prepared to let that pass if the car was pushing 300+bhp and as much torque. But it doesn't!

19 to 20mpg I wish my rx8 could get that

I Owned my RX8 for almost 5 years and I get about 14mpg (Which normally goes up to about 16 to 17mpg in the warmer summer weather)

The only way an RX8 is going get 30mpg is if you push it or tow it for about the first 10 or so miles for each gallon of fuel used ;)
