You’re in a 30 zone…

If she told him no, then she could be prosecuted for not following a traffic direction from a constable in uniform. If you are directed, then you must follow that instruction.

This, there's a massive difference in not doing something because you haven't thought of it / don't want to , and that when being TOLD to do so by a police officer.

This thread wouldn't even exist if people still had their common sense :(

Contrary to popular opinion you are supposed to carry on as normal. It is up to the highly trained police driver to get past you as soon as he deems it is safe to do so.

The thing that annoys me is is when you pull over to let emergency services pass and folk (almost always audi drivers) take the opportunity to overtake.
My best ever rush hour journey to work one morning was when an ambulance went past me on the A12 with lights and sirens going and I dropped in behind him and followed him all the way from Colchester to Brentwood. He wasn't speeding at all but it made it a lovely drive for me.

It helped that at the time, my car was not only fairly new (so nice and shiny) but had a couple of aerials on the back and an accidental high-vis on the back parcel shelf.

Well you're supposed to carry on as normal until you can safely get out of the way, a subtle but important difference. You should still get out of the way when you can, not just carry on and expect them to find their way past you.

Sounds like the OP is saying no room to pull over and other lane oncoming lane full.

I would speed up. Of course...butnot crazy fast.

If it was anyone's here mother who was having a heart attack would you want me to speed up or stick to 30 ??

Which I would happily contest all the way to the top level of court in the circumstances described. With a threat to take the case to the local newspaper too if necessary. CPS would drop the case immediately, once they knew the circumstances - they'd be laughed out of court.

Watching all these traffic cop / cop reality shows on TV, it is far far more shocking what cases are dropped than what go ahead.

The best sort of driver for a blue light driver to encounter is a predictable one. The difference in speed is unlikely to make much if any difference to the arrival time and if there's a mobile camera van or stationary camera then you've got 3 points and £100 fine for your troubles.

I used to live in Manchester above a busy junction.

It seems the Prison vans are typically the exception to the rule, every week at rush hour (I assume after the courts were done for the day) you would get a police escorted prison van heading to Strangeways, and wow do those guys not **** around!

This is the layout, they are turning left at the red light

I assume they can't take chances for high profile cases by being stuck in traffic but the police motorcyclists would often routinely go up alongside a car at a left turn traffic light and tell them to go through the red light and pull over, the bikes would then go through, block the traffic and the vans and police escort would go through.

You would often see people being told to mount the pavements and when people sat at the red lights unsure whether to go through or not, more often than not a smack to the window and vigorous gesticulating by the police motorcyclist would get them moving.

I experienced this once in Nottingham, loads of police cars and bikes screeched up to a huge junction, blocked all the lanes off, next thing a huge prison van went tearing through and off up a dual carriageway.

It's quite scary at first, like something out of a spy drama, you're waiting for it all to kick off and bullets start flying! ;)

That depends if she had made dinner yet

happened to me today, along Euston Road, I held speed for 400 yards with them right at my back, then pulled over into middle to let them past on my left to turn left,

got a thumbs up from the cop driving.

I guess its about paying attention to what they are doing/going, and not being panicked or stupid about it.

Your confidence is misplaced. You'd contest the ticket, still be convicted at magistrates court (you wouldn't be the first by a long shot) and then you'll be stuck for grounds to appeal.

I would argue that point for the Ambulance & Fire Service.
A couple of minutes can be life and death for a patient.

Can be, but rarely is. Most of what the ambulance service deal with aren't the emergencies you think they are.

£100 quid fine and 3 points on license is nothing if you help to save some ones life.

You could also get offered the coppers cash cow, the speed training course you can take for £90 so some fat retard can tell you, "You have driven too fast"!

Yes the are loads of people who freeze when they see blues and twos, not sure why that is but some people are thick as pig ****!

What about if it's just a couple having a shouting match? Or a drunk who has fallen over and cut themselves a bit? Or a small fire that some kids have set in some woodland? Would you happily get a £100 fine and 3 points for that?

It could be potentially a life threatening situation, as you have no idea it's best to assume it is and get the hell out of the way

Indeed. Everyone likes to think they're playing the hero. However, I dare say most of time they're more of a nuisance than anything.

Interesting conundrum.

If it's meatwagon or FB, I'd probably speed up by a small amount (say to 35 MPH or certainly less than 40) if safe to do so until reaching a location where I could pull in.

Five-Oh, not so sure. They *could* be signalling me to pull over so accelerating likely to aggravate whatever I'm supposed to have done so best to plod on until I can get clear.

The chances of it being one of my scenarios is much more likely. At the end of the day, if you're happy to do that then that's up to you.
