Channel 4 - What British Muslims Really Think

Does anybody know a muslim who sympathizes with terrorists and feels homosexuality should be illegal ?

I know plenty of muslims and cant say i know any, everyone i know seems to really hate isis.

Sorry fella that's not how this thread works. You need to undermine ICM and their methodologies and refer to the Sun poll carried out a few years back where 80 odd percent supported terrorism.

Need to consider this point carefully I guess... Because basically - and correct me if I'm wrong here - a Muslim shoud consider (the act of) homosexuality as a punishable crime (& sin)?

If they do not, then they are failing the very core of their faith as the Quraan dictates as much?

Of course there's the debate within Islam of the exact punishment, but I believe there is the suggestion that Muhammad proscribed death was a suitable treatment for homosexuality, so if this is to be believed, it's not surprising Muslims get rather confused how to deal with this topic. I believe some Islamic cultures decide for example homosexuality does not deserve death, and reserve that for much more severe crimes like apostasy! :)

The problem is those terms aren't used equally across the religions though. A moderate Christian is someone who only attends church for funerals, Christenings and weddings, may occasionally pray when they are a dire situation and most likely hasn't read the Bible.

A moderate Muslim prays 5 times day, starves themselves for a full month every year, attends Mosque at least once a week, adopts a special diet, agrees to marry someone chosen by their parents and has probably read their holy book several times over.

If you knew a Christian who dedicated as much as their life to their religion as your average moderate Muslim you'd most likely consider them a "Bible Basher" and someone taking it (relative to their peers) to a more 'extreme' level.

As Bill Maher once said, the problem with Islam is it takes itself way too seriously and requires much more from its followers.

You clearly can't know that many 'moderate' Muslims.
The moderate ones I know won't pray 5 times a day, they'll mainly do the evening ones.
They try and fast, if they fail then they try the next day.
Don't often attend Mosque, maybe once a fortnight
Yeah they do eat a special diet, and try and have Halal if possible. I've got mates who have been to a Punjabi restaurant which doesn't serve Halal. They're OK with that as there was no other option for them.
And only traditional families have someone chosen by their parents. The children find their own partners. They generally marry someone of the same religion because it makes things easier for them and nothing wrong with that

I doubt they've read the Koran the whole way through.

You know jack ****

The exact same goes for Christians too and even mentions that it is punishable by death in the bible. It all depends on the reader and how they interpret it, or acts on it.
As mentioned above I haven't met a single muslim who sympathizes with terrorists in any way, and they certainly didn't express any bad feelings towards homosexuality though I admit that probably hasn't come up in many conversations.

Leviticus 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death"

This is the same as i see it, they usually pray once a week on friday. Some dont bother with that.

Muslims aren't allowed music, though religious chants are OK.

I suspect that would depend which sect they are, and how strictly they follow it.

Music, oddly enough is popular in large parts of the Muslim world, IIRC Iran for example has a fair bit.
Otherwise the likes of the Taliban wouldn't have felt the need to crack down on it so much when they were around if it wasn't allowed and everyone followed that line of thought.

On the flip side, there are/were Christian and Jewish sects that also from memory don't allow music, or only allow very limited types.

Fair point... But the different I guess is Christians do not generally take the bible for a word perfect reference manual on the meaning of everything, and declaring it to be the final absolute word of God etc...

What is it with excusing or explaining Islamic behaviour and ideals by always pointing at what others do?

Neil fawcett was talking about Muslims following the Quran and the ability to follow the texts in what it dictates and you come out about Christians?

Also Christians view the new testament as the fulfilment of Gods covenant and its quite clear about the progression (what god has made let no man call unclean, regarding food etc).

Still far more adherent that most people who call themselves Christians though (which was the point I was making).

Be honest, who's daily life is most affected by their religion. Your 'average' Christian or your 'average' Muslim. If you think they are the same you are either lying or delusional.

Yes they are allowed music

Wrong again.

Slightly longer answer; some sects within Islam permit music, but the mainstream Sunni and Shia sects do not. Music is especially forbidden by the extremist wahabi/jihadi sects that a significant minority of British Muslims follow.

Christian faith is based upon the New Testament. Not the Old.

The thing is that Muslim haters seem to paint a picture that all Muslims are music hating, hate preaching and foaming at the mouth all the time.

A persons religion is determined by what they identify their religion to be regardless of how closely or strictly if follows the doctrines of that religion. It is for this reason that belief, faith and what is considered acceptable and abhorrent varies so much from person to person in the same religion.

How can I be wrong again when I wasn't wrong a first time?
