Hi guys,

I know you can get bluetooth comm units made by Sena and others but is there a way to utilise your phone to do a similar thing?

Mostly for when the GF is riding Pillion so range isn't an issue.
 
I would go Sena if you ride with her on the back a lot. If there are any plans for her to get a bike as well then even more reason to get a Sena.

Otherwise there are cheap bluetooth rider-pillion comms sets on Amazon with some good reviews. Something like this:

I suppose you could use the app above, then each use the earphones that have a mic inline tucked in to your helmet. That might be awful though :p

That seconds one craig linked to is the one I have, for the price - it's great. I've never tried the intercom but it'll be much easier than faffing around with 2x earphones with mics trying to put them in the helmet. These things have decent noise cancelling too which cut out the wind noise.

Maybe get a cheap pair before you decide whether or not you like them, as the sena units are the best but a lot more expensive.
 
I've use Sena for about 4 years now and it's been excellent. The latest ones will connect to other brands too, whereas some are proprietary. iPhone integration is really useful, as you're essentially just using Siri, so have access to everything that Siri can do (directions, read out and reply to texts, dial contacts etc)

I've actually just installed the X-Comm into my newish NEXX helmet. This is built buy Sena for NEXX and has all the same features but in a much neater and more integrated to the helmet package. Obviously is does tie me into NEXX helmets, but this has been the best helmet I've owned anyway so not too bothered about that.

I have iOS and she has Android so could cause issues but as others mentioned the tucking of the mic into the helmet from ear piece could be a pain in the butt.

She has no intention of taking the controls but more than happy for me to taxi her around in style rather than queuing in traffic :P

Sena is expensive but I'm a sucker for quality. I don't have any local riding friends since my two mates that got me into bikes moved down under.

I'm thinking probs best go cheap if she isn't riding herself.

Interesting. Watched a YouTube on the app and looks good.
 
That's what I want too, and a Shoei GT-Air to go with it :D

All I would say is make sure there's enough room on your left grip area for the remote, if you have big hands/short grips it might get a little tight.
 
Sena make some interesting products, but what I'm really impressed with is how quickly they're currently innovating and refreshing their product range. I'll be in the market around this time next year, and hope they'll have updated the 10C by then. The first iteration is almost there, but the updated version will hopefully have audio quality to the standard of their other products along with improved video.

The do the same kit for a variety of other helmets so yours might be included.

As for the grip area there isn't much room on my bike. Might need to find some reviews of people installing/using it.
 
I have an Arai Axces 2, thing is like my bike and other kit it gets used all year round doing loads of miles, has a scrape down one of the side pods and is generally covered in crap all the time. It's not a bad helmet, just very noisy. I'd said I'll treat myself to a new helmet to keep nice (i.e not use in winter) and to use when touring when I get a 2nd bike. The GT Air is meant to be very quiet, it's either that or the Shoei NXR but they don't make the 10U for the NXR.
 
Sena are not as good as people are making out. I have had 3 20S units fail on me and they are only splash proof NOT water proof. Check out the Sena forums , I'm not the only one !!

Having had enough of Sena I have bought Interphone Tour's and couldn't be happier.

My brother and I have had our Senas for about a year now, through all sorts of weather and not had a problem. Only had a few small issues because of his old Arai not having any decent mounting points for the mic and earphones, but that's sorted now with his new helmet. Can comfortably talk on the motorway. Couldn't ride with him without comms now, they make things so much more entertaining & easier for things like stopping for petrol, food, etc.

Only issue I had was with my original one discharging when plugged in to my PC, about a month after I got it, but they replaced no problem & new one is perfect.
