I checked my email this morning to find that somebody has ordered a gtx 980 ti from my amazon account to a place in cardiff. I have a good mind to go and poo through the letterbox.

Issues raised with amazon and cancelled my credit cards. They said their investigation team will contact me withing 24 hours.

Somehow the little scrote has logged in to my account, added a delivery address and placed the order.

Assuming my pc hasn't been hacked, and I have not used any public computers recently, the only way I can see this happening is inside job perhaps?

I use the 'my account got hacked' excuse on my wife every time I buy an expensive new graphics card too. ;)

Haha!

Yes the first thing I did was cancel my cards and get the password and email changed.

Haven't been hacked before to my knowledge so I don't think it was an easy password to guess.

I wonder if the package would then get redirected to another address?

Google - this happens quite often with Amazon. It's fairly easy for someone who knows your name and email to get access to your account by getting bits of information from their support via telephone and live chat. This then enables them to answer the security questions.

After a bit of digging I can confirm that this is most likely. It seems that somebody has called amazon and managed to convince them to send out a replacement order out to cardiff using my order details...

Did the hacker put in a actual residential address as the delivery address or just an Amazon locker or pick up point? If it's an actual residential address then this hacker is clearly no evil genius...

an Actual residential address!

Unless there is some redirecting going on, its a pretty dumb and risky way to get free stuff.

Amazon really needs 2 step authentication.
