apologies, it was a choice between the daily mail or the sun so i opted for the lesser of the two evils and it's of little surprise that it's only these two publications that have run it but i think it's a sign of the times

one of the volunteers uploaded a longer version of the video and it's quite worrying to see how blatantly the acts are carried out

one could argue that it would have been given away anyway or may even have had to be disposed of but the point is, someone's paid for that and people were still running!

It's people with no respect for themselves, fat, work-shy slobs stealing in broad daylight, who have no respect for others, the people running a marathon for mostly charitable causes.

Seems like a false story to some extent, looking at the article closely and the pictures it looks like it was at the end of the race rather than towards the start as they said. The buxton chaps are even letting them do it, seems to me that in fact someone said help yourselves to the left-overs.

If its as it seems then theft is theft. People are prosecuted for far less every day.

If this were a drought stricken country then it would be a different story, but none of those people needed bottles of water.

The mass of empty bottles in the gutter in some of the photos certainly supports that actually.

there's a longer video where the poster comments on how their must be poverty in the area and says there are still people running

it wasn't being given away and i assume the volunteers didn't fancy stopping them

I'm shocked. Shocked that they allow anyone to run through such a **** hole.

However, the number of empty bottles on the ground, and the lack of runner suggests this picture was taken towards the end of the day/race.

It's still wrong though.

This is such a non-story. To me it's pretty obvious the Buxton guys have allowed the water to be taken, also looks like the end of the race. Can't see many marathon runners left!

this, no spectators, place looks like a mess after the race.

what else would they do with the left overs.

I'm assuming this is people who steal water from the water stops on the marathon. Happens every year throughout the marathon. There are a *lot* of opportunist thieving ****** in East London.

What i have figured out yet is how does daily mail make all that money and have 2 mills.... in circulation at any given moment..
Comparing to other simmular media they are 10 steps ahead

I'm not following .

Looks rather like a non story click bait thing. I can't imagine they could resell the water.

Definitely not stealing, being allowed to take it after the end of the race.

What gets me more than anything though is the sheer ferocity they're going at it. It's as if they're giving away free TV's. Are there no taps in Deptford or something?

At least be a bit civilised!

Definitely not stealing, being allowed to take it after the end of the race.

The man filming the video, who is understood to be Mr Hudson, tells the camera: “Obviously hard times in Deptford, the water supplies not reached here yet, as you can see by all the locals trying to nick all the water that is actually for the marathon runners.

"Although the last coach has gone past so the marathon runners are in their own but it's quite a sad state.”

Buxton Natural Mineral Water stations are available for runners along every mile of the sporting event from Mile Three and are manned by volunteers.

London Marathon have said they are aware of the footage and will be investigating the incident.

Hugh Brasher, Event Director for London Marathon Events Ltd, said: “It’s very disappointing to see water being stolen in this way from the official water stations for our runners.

MailOnline has blurred the faces of any possible children in the photographs from the scenes in Deptford.

That's very un-Mail. Usually they're posting pictures of children and commenting on how they are 'filling out nicely'.
