big bang in leeds?

This is the path of the plane they intercepted, can see why.

I remember years back waiting to hear the nightly sonic boom from Concorde until the doo gooders forced it to change route and it was no longer allowed to be supersonic over land.

It was bloody loud, but awesome none the less.

I remember that too. It was such an iconic sight in the sky as well :)

I can remember all our garage doors shaking when it passed.

never heard a sonic boom before - damn it was loud.
I honestly thought someone had blown up leeds, oh well.

At close range, a sonic boom is loud enough to kill a person. Even from a high altitude for flight, it's still very loud at ground level. It's one reason why supersonic passenger planes aren't used and why Concorde only went supersonic when well out to sea.

Although in the future, they'll probably be able to go supersonic over land. NASA is doing a huge amount of research into aircraft shape that minimises sonic booms.

I heard them take off last night, didn't think much of it since it's a fairly regular occurrence, even though it was fairly late for them to be making their usual racket.

really? I saw mythbusters and they couldnt even break a glass with a superhornet at less than 200 ft..they shattered a single window pane at 200ft..and they really did it, and Adam barfed a lot in the rear seat
