Mountain Biking

if it's a savage climb I just get off and push. The amount of people who just ride between sections with their lid off is quite a bit anyways! I gotta be honest the last event at FOD I wore my bell helmet with no chin guard. Won't do t again in a hurry mind.

Can you not be disqualified for riding without a lid?

Dhill - http://shop.birdmtb.com/aeris.html But maybe I'm biased ;)

I'd go 10x, change forks to Pikes, shock to the Monarch Plus and add a reverb for about £2100.

Possibly add SLX brakes for the tiny price hike too.

What a sucky days riding, first ride in about 6 weeks due to back injury and i got 2 1/2 runs and 2 punctures... First one in a rock garden i usually plow through with no issues, I was a bit offline to the left:confused: and caught the edge of a rock, 2nd I'm unsure of the hit that did it but the only spare i had to put in was mega thin 2.1 max inner tube in a 2.35 tyre so i was a bit dubious of whether it would last anyway.
Either way it just wasnt my day, didnt realise how unprepared i had come, usually have my entire tool kit in the car, with a ton of spares. I completely forgot to load the tool kit and spares, had one spare tube in my bag, and no proper tyre levers... managed to get the first tube replaced with the tiny useless levers on my multitool, after the 2nd puncture and the long lonely push back up I just decided to sack it, someone or something up there just didnt want me riding today, I took the hint and packed up, it was such a nice day too...:( need to get a stans kit ordered ASAP.

Aw ... didn't see you there. Or did I (Didn't / can't do Descend)? Gotta love a bit of NOFX though.
If you go tubeless and want to borrow my airshot, give me a shout.

I did BC bike race last year on the enduro ;)
Any tyre recommendations? Trying to decide what to shod mine and my wife's bikes with for the race.
What are they like?! Brek is meant to be much less technical than BCBR but the altitude and length are brutal.
I don't know what routes they use for the Breck Epic, but there's certainly plenty of everything up there - and it's all high up if you're coming from the UK. It's been a heavy snow winter this year, so it will be a while before the high trails will be open for me to be riding up there, likely after the BCBR.

Lots of good trail descriptions here if you know what routes the race uses:

Might have, but i wasnt there for long, maybe 2 hours tops. I had Red waterproof jacket on and a Fluro yellow fullfacer.
would have probably been mumbling all sorts of swearys to myself looking pretty pee'd off.:D
and cheers for the offer, if i have dramas i'll give you a shout, but the Magic marys are pretty tight on my rim, so i reckon should bead up pretty easy.

I was on 29 slaughter and butcher tyres. Don't skimp for the sake of rolling resistance... I can't stress enough how technically difficult the riding is. I never thought I wanted beteer rolling resistance. Grip was always needed though :)

Last year had a record heat wave so the trails blew out exposing huge rock fields.

I've been on a DHF front, Rocker Razor rear for a while, so similar to the Spec's you ran. I'll likely stick with the DHF and try a Minion SS on the back. Wife might go Ardent F+R or stick with her normal Mountain Kings.

Thanks

Does anyone's other half (on the assumption that they're female) also ride with you? Just wondering what bikes they have, if they're on a "male" bike or have something like a Liv, or whatever?

I made the mistake of letting mine have a go on my Aeris for a bit yesterday and she loved it. Previously she was on my old Spec. Camber. I thought it was a great bike when I took ownership of it, but the Aeris poops on it from a great height in all areas from what I can feel/tell. But then that is a bird's want.

I could just buy another and have a SpAeris, but maybe there's something better suited? She's 5'8 and has T-rex arms as far as I can tell from what she says about always feeling too far forward on the Camber.

Ah probably not. Don't remember such a helmet. I just worked up the courage to do the last drop on Brain Freeze a couple of times :(

My wife isn't riding MTB any time this life, but there's several girls in my regular riding buddies group and none of them ride a woman's-specific bike as far as I know. One Aeris, one Ibis Mojo HD, one Lapierre of some kind that I can't remember but I think it's an old Zesty. And some others that I don't see so often and can't remember at all.

There's some thoughts about it from a woman here: http://singletrackworld.com/columns/2015/09/adele-mitchell-the-trouble-with-womens-mountain-bikes/ ... how accurate and true all that is, I don't know. But so long as the bike fits and feels good I think it shouldn't matter if it's meant for a particular gender.

What is the price for a good one £500? Been looking at outdoor stuff in the local area and suprised there are some good trails, Some of the longest downhills in Ireland are around 5 miles away. So i had a google like i normally do on buying and im being pushed towards a Calibre Two.Two at around £389?

Cheaper than Kayaking even though again im on the doorstep of some II III and even a IIII and V on high water. But im pussing out due to the hassle and amount of weirs on the river! So i said this summer i would look into either fishing or biking.

£339 it seems the ones you linked are all poking 500 and i forgot about the helmet! The video steve did is about what i would aim for nothing faster but maybe in time a bit more slower and technical bits too over rocks because some of the places i plan to go are either boggy rocky or downhill forest like the stuff he goes over.

Albeit without the distracting colors and signs. You reckon the two two will be ok? There is nothing i dread more about this than being 5 miles from home at the top of a mountain forest and a bike to carry down hill.

If you take a two two round the trail Steve has at the same speed it isn't going to last long. Not saying it isn't capable, just that maybe the video doesn't give the speed or the height of those jumps much justice.

What is the weakpoint then and how much am i going to have to spend over the two two? £500 surely has to be the maximum? The forest goes right up to 420m so thats the kind of lug your looking at for a broken bike.

Cheers man.
