*** Sky Q Thread ***

I've had Sky Q for a couple of weeks now and I've had to reset the mini box at least half a dozen times!

Yes it's nice to be able to access content on the main box downstairs but it's not even close to the reliability of multi-room imo!
 
See... reading about the "multiroom" experience of Sky Q has made me think twice about getting it.

And reading the comments made in this thread. I feel vindicated about this. Happy to stick with my 3 multi rooms for now.

Im sure Sky Q will improve (but as is the case with anything new, there are bound to be teething problems/issues).

Our mini box is used daily since we've had it installed and it has been flawless. Are you a distance away from the main box?

It is also a downgrade if you have multiple 2TB.

In your opinion!

You may not be able to store as much as you can on multiple +HD boxes but conversely you don't have the ability to watch on a box other than the one you recorded on.

There are pros and cons to each system. Just because +HD is better for you doesn't make it a "downgrade" in general.

This is true. They are two different beasts frankly speaking.

No denying, the ability to be able to watch stuff in other rooms regardless of where it was recorded (well on the Sky Silver box) is appealing.

But for me this is a minor positive which (in my opinion and requirements) is infinitesimal in comparison to the other aspects of Sky Q which will affect my viewing experience.

One of the things which I find ironic and would problably appreciate an explanation from our fellow Sky Q users...

Sky Q is being positioned as more cost effective than multiroom....

But surely there is a limit to the number of devices you can have viewing at the same time due to bandwidth over the WiFi? I stand to be corrected on this since Im sure I read somewhere that the main Sky Silver box connects to the home WiFi which in turn broadcasts its own special WiFi signal (presumably not advertised SSID) to the other Sky boxes (minis and other silvers?).

They aren't close that's for sure but when the engineer did his checks he said the connection was pretty much as good as it got!

To be fair it doesn't appear to be a connection issue - the box has out and out refused to turn on rather than it struggling to connect!

Can't say I'm too bothered as I'm going back to Sky HD next weekend anyway!

Just too many small annoyances adding up to bigger headaches for me and certainly not worth paying MORE for!

I'm sure it's great for some people, just not my cup of tea!

The Sky+HD boxes I've found are pretty much rock solid. I usually never have to bother with them as they run for months without issues. Usually the only time it ever gets restarted is updates.

Just a shame they look so dated.

Plus it costs an extra £16 per month over a +HD multiroom setup (two HD boxes).....;)

Sure doesn't look like a good deal to me..I say it Looks more like a total rip off price

The only thing that might make me get Sky Q is the UHD offerings, details coming this summer apparently. If it's just sport and a few movie channels I'll wait I think.

Three channels I've been told. Sport, Movies and Entertainment. The F1 is going to be in UHD from next season so I'd imagine there will be more than one sport channel by then as the Premier League will be the flagship UHD offering.

Don't forget the On Demand programming as well MC..
 
The engineer that installed mine said UHD wouldn't be until Q4 of this year at the earliest and even then the vast majority would be on demand rather than the "live" channels!

But then again he's an engineer and could just be talking ****!
