I actually feel upset and sick :(

OP ignore this lot.... Life's all about wins and losses, take this as one very small loss - you wait till you experience life's big losses ;)

You've got a great card which you're enjoying right NOW instead of waiting around.

Enjoy have fun.

ps I recently picked up a cheap 980 on MM only to be told to get rid of it ASAP due to Pascal - I chose to keep it as I need it

// edit with lowrider on this .... ENJOY don't fret

OP, we all make mistakes with technology I'm sure, I know I have. Some are just bad timing. Live with it (the card) or put it right by paying a bit more in a few weeks to upgrade again.

The Ti is a fantastic card though personally I would have waited as if you're happy with the 980 Ti performance the 1070 is coming out for around £300 and will offer 980 Ti performance are you past 14 days?

You should look at this as a positive thing. You've learnt a valuable lesson about buying products in the modern world. It is very fast paced and you have to do a bit of research before buying anything.

It's still a good card and next time you'll be armed with the information to make a better decision. No one ever learned anything by getting it right first time ;)

Long story short I built my very first gaming PC a few weeks ago, I bought a lovely 980 TI GPU. However, I just heard a new GPU has just come out which is x2 better than the 980 Ti which I just purchased.

Should I of waited? I feel bad now, I got this GPU but now a new GPU has just been released which is practically 980 Ti in a SLI in a single card.

there is nothing to be sick about the graph shows the 1080 roughly 20% over 980Ti with 70watt less TDP, not as big of a difference that the show made it sound to be.
i am pretty sure ppl will have a cold shower once benchs will start showing, that thing was so confusing and misleading, designed to leave you with a wrong impression

The acid test will be the difference between stock and overclock headroom clockspeeds.

Enjoy your card bud, There is ALWAYS something new around the corner, Unless you are like some of us here *me included* with no real responsibilities, Getting the latest and greatest every single time can get expensive and sometimes sees no real benefits.

even that is confusing to me, if you take the G1 980Ti and compare the boost (1228mhz), need about 40% clock increase for 20% performance over stock.
if you put clock by clock with the 1080, you end up with a 1080 20% slower than a 980Ti at 1607.
but yeah need to see how high they clock and how does efficiency scale with it

I dont get it, how can it be more expensive as the process has shrunk so should be a lot cheaper to produce compared to previous gen.

At a guess. Being on a new smaller process the r&d costs will have been pretty high on this new generation. So costs to end users will be high. Same with the new smaller Intel mainstream cpu's. Take the 6700k, a lot more expensive at release than the chips it replaced.

Mentioned in another thread that pascal R&D has run into the billions. Cant remember from the presentation but think it was either $7billion or $14billion. No idea how that compares to previous R&D spends tho. Either way, that's a lot of dosh.

If you think of that spend you can understand why they might want to control the release of products to the market to optimise the return. Could they do a big Pascal release right now? I doubt it personally but if I ran the co, I wouldn't want to even if I could either. It's a business to make profit so you'd time the release of your products.

I have been saying for what seems like YEARS to wait for the die shrink before buying into the hype of 970 or whatever... Consider that OCUK themselves are running a business and want to try and shift as much of a product before it becomes less popular. It's a life lesson.

You deserve everything you get for not being a bit smarter with your money. Sorry, but it's quite clearly the truth.

OP if you were within 14 days then get a refund. Otherwise, maybe you can sell it for a decent price and minimum loss before knowledge of the new GPU's becomes mainstream and prices drop.
