Radeon AIB Partners "Frustrated" at AMD

Hah thats what they want you to believe!!!

in all seriousness though, i would not put it past AMD rebranding Fiji somehow to try and offload that particular turgid dungheap of a card, its not like they dont have prior when it comes to Rebranding cards and shovelling them out the door.

If the Polaris stuff does not hit the level in performance and price of the 1070 then i cant see a way forward for AMD, i kid you not, Nvidia will absolutely clean house with that 1070 *IF* it matches the performance its reportedly supposed to have.

Look at the 970, that thing sold in droves, regardless of the fact it had gimped memory, people love that card, they lapped it up, then add in the psychological fact the new card is named a 1070 (its a 100 times better card now no???) has 8GB of Ram and reportedly spars with an 980ti for a mouth watering £350 +/- a few squid, AMD are going to need their card to unzip your pants and give you a damn good time for less money, thats for sure.

Well, i wont be buying a 1070 at £350, thats too expensive for that performance, £300 at most.

Nvidia rebranded loads of cards - look at loads of Kepler ones,or the 100 million rebranded G92 based ones.

The only performance they have shown is comparing the 1080 to stock boosting titan x (1200mhz). And the situation they showed its relative performance was for Vr, which they already said gets a big boost due to single pass rendering and Multi projection. I am also sure they were comparing it to the 1080 boosting to 2.1ghz from the power draw they had it set at.

Those two features are just software and could be back ported if nvidia wanted to, but they won't since it makes pascal look better than it is.

Using their absurd logic,if Vega and Polaris are rebranded cards, then Pascal is a rebranded Maxwell which is a rebranded Kepler which is a rebranded Fermi.

That's assuming AMD are still around by then!

I doubt AMD can survive another round this year.

TBH I wish they'd go under sooner rather than later. At least it will be a complete end to the fanboy wars here.

All we'll have to choose from will be NVIDIA. No arguing, debating, ridiculing, trolling etc.

Sooner it comes, then sooner we can all move on from enthusiast forums like this one - it will be pretty boring when everyone's running the exact same hardware IMO.

No progress, no innovation, high end cards costing £1000 etc etc. Yeah, really looking to the world when there is just one mainstream gpu manufacturer.

I feel similar. But if the 1070 does beat the TX and can OC even better, than I may consider stretching a little further.

But you never know, Jen-Hsun's comments may turn out to be sheer humbug. Lol ;)

Anyone else think Pascal is an overclocked 16nm Maxwell?

It does look like it on face value. Looking at the Boost clocks on the 1080 needed to beat the Titan X at a nice amount it does make me wonder how well the 1080 would have done if it had similar clocks as Maxwell.

The jump also doesn't impress me as much as I thought it would. It looks very similar to 980 vs Titan/780 Ti, plus it's been marked up an extra $50; while using a bit more power than the 980 as well.

It's a good card for the performance( shown so far ), no doubt; but I can't help but feel it's not as good as it should have been.

We'll see for certain once reviewers tear it apart hopefully.

Well,I learnt a new thing today on this forum. Apparently a node shrink and uarch improvements are a rebrand.

Looks like Nvidia have ripped me off with my Kepler and Maxwell based cards - they made me sneakily buy Fermi it appears and put it in a small form factor rig. Bar-stewards!!

Definitely not buying Pascal now!! But wait,Polaris is a rebrand. Never going to buy another graphics card now.

Meh,just going to watch other people playing games on YouTube instead.

:o:p:D

I think regardless of which cards faster, the smart money is going to be on buying an AMD card anyhow, mainly because of the amount of console ports we get, easier to optomise for AMD cards in that respect.

Also if the rumors of now hardware A-Sync in Pascal are true, and they are having to brute force it, its not long before you run out of brute force, while the AMD's hardware A-Sync will have a lot further mileage in it.

Anyhow, im just jaded with AMD, i have been buying their cards exclusively for the past 12+ years ive felt let down a bit since the 6950, although the 7870 i had was pretty decent, the Ref 290 i had was noisy and hot, and the 390 gave me no reason to upgrade really, and the Fiji stuff was just laughable at best (Except the Nano, thats not too bad) so ive been stuck with a 290 Tri-X for a while now and its been great, but ive been waiting for them to release something thats made me want to sell my wife and kids to buy, just has not happened yet.

Coupled with the current rumors of Polaris, which is massively underwhelming in the target they are aiming for, and the absolute stonewall silence on Vega, its just made me want to buy Nvidia right now, theres something to be said about hyping your product, it makes the consumer want to buy it, especially if they have been starved by their normal provider for so long.

AMD really should just release some info, it does not even need to be accurate in regards to exact performance, as long as they say its something like "yeah Vega is 20% faster than XXX" and then in reality its actually 35% faster, people love getting more than they expected for free :)

With a Boost clock of 1733Mhz and Jens showing off a (no doubt hand picked card) 2.1Ghz overclock it equates to +20%.

The 970 has a reference boost clock of 1178Mhz, mine will run 24/7 at 1550Mhz, thats 30%.

Big numbers, not so big overclocks and a card not hand picked by Jens will probably only do +15%.

In reality a 1080 is 25% faster than a 980TI out of the box, but probably only 15% faster once both are overclocked.

A 1070 trading blows with a 980TI? out of the box maybe, but in the real world i would rather have a 980TI, i get the feeling the 980TI will #### on it.

£350, in reality for that i might get +30% if i'm lucky, thats not enough for 4 years stuck on 28nm at pretty much the same performance for the same price.

IMO people are getting far too worked up over this, absolutely sucked in so deep by all the hype.

I might agree in terms of playing games right now but I think 1070 will show benefits down the line - atleast once the 980ti is no longer getting the full range of optimisations :O

I am doomed with a GTX960,lol.

:p

Good thing I only really play Fallout 4 and Planetside 2 ATM.

Everything is a rebranded VSA-100 from a voodoo 5 5000. :p
