Windows 10

the implementation isn't that bad, it was oh look spying, how dare they fear mongering.
its still referenced as controversial by all articles.
when it was nothing of the sort.

It was kind of poor in terms of default settings, granularity/control and how it was presented to the user, etc. though - its like they have no one left at MS able to see features in the context of broad perspective. Subsequently they are having to back track, somewhat reluctantly, on features that should never have been in that state in the first place.

OK over the last wweek or so I have noticed quite a few GBs at least 30+ that seem to be missing from my C Drive on Windows 10, so after mooching about within my C Drive I came across under hidden files a folder named "ProgramData" within this folder is an Origin folder that is 32Gbs .....does that sound right ? I should say that All my origin games ( like my steam and Uplay games are installed on other SSDs .

Also since last night another 5 Gbs seem to have gone, I should also say I dont use system protection....and i dont have a "windows Old " folder, i got rid of that after upgrading to win10, so all in all...windows is telling me that I'm using 80Gbs for my C Drive ...

on my C drive I have 30GB being used for the OS and that's it.

has the origins folder increased in size since the extra 5gb has gone?

The origin folder was 32Gbs lol...so what i did was dump origin , games , folders anything orgine...and now after reinstalling origin...I have 43.1 Gbs used, and free space of 189 Gbs which is what i wwould have expected .
Perhaps it was some game installers

Look in the Orgin settings you can change the location of its download folder as this will be separate to where it installs games to, I believe there is an option for Orgin to delete the install files once the game is installed.

Also unless you use hibernation you will have a hidden file on your C: drive equal to the size of your RAM.

You can turn it off with admin command prompt and use the command "powercfg /h off"no reboot is needed as you get the space back straight away.

Ive still got an issue that if i enable autohide on the taskbar it makes my pc take around 30 seconds to boot. Disable autohide and it boots in 8 seconds!.

This has been an issue since the november update and microsoft still havent fixed it.

Anyone else experience the same?.

Yet again, my machine had issue s shutting down last night. It was still attempting it when I got up this morning. :(

Never had a problem on the same computer with Windows 7 or 8.1. It is the first time it has done it in a while, anyone have any ideas?

i had similar issue afew times, when i clicked shutdown, windows explorer would just restart, it wouldn't shutdown the pc, so i had to do a hard shutdown

I always disable that stuff in preference of my own NAS backup - but I did have to laugh how it was close to perfect in 8 and then meh in 10.

It should be the perfect solution for my family as they have a PC and just use it for documents. The seemless and automatic merging of your local Documents folder into OneDrice that one of the Preview versions did would have totally solved their backup concerns.

But they removed that so setting up OneDrive requires me to do stuff, and then they dropped the free allocation from 15GB to 5GB, while also braking its online only files :(.

I use MSMG Toolkit to remove all the apps, OneDrive, Defender and some other bits that I regard as useless from my ISO images.

Defender is very light weight though, albeit not very effective.

tbh if you are a smart browser you wont need an antivirus lol!

Anyway, w10 for me is still going strong with no issues and the good news is my one niggle with it, which was the mail app not syncing, has resolved itself!

I uninstalled the mail and people apps, reinstalled them from the windows store again just to see if it would work, and it did :)

I will probably never use it...but I couldn't stand the fact it didn't work
