Going to Chester on Saturday and thought about buying a new suit but haven't got around to it.
My current suit (2 piece) is about 4 years old but only been worn about 6 times so still in perfect condition and as I only need a suit for special occasions I think I might give it another outing and get some wear out of it.

So my current suit is charcoal/black like really dark and almost black but not quite, and also has stripes in the same colour.
Because it's almost black, I tend to wear it with a white shirt and a patterned black/dark tie.
What colour shirt & tie combo goes well with such a dark suit?

Grey shirt and black tie or go to a shop find a similar suit and hold various shirts up against it until you find you like the look of.

Failing all that ask at the shop go on a weekday and they 'll have all the time in world for you.

Avoid extremes of light and dark with the shirt. Maybe go for a sky blue shirt with a navy tie.

White shirt/black tie too formal. This is a fun day not a funeral.

EDIT: Actually, pair that sky blue shirt up with a nice yellow tie. If the suits almost black you'll look great. Smart but very approachable.

A raincoat. Likely going to hammer it down again next weekend. Torrential rain when I came back home from Chester this morning.

Its not something to stress about, Chester races is all scousers in suits who are generally bladdered before they even get to the roodee. Being sober will put you above 90% of the clientele.

I live and work in Chester and can pretty much tell you this is 100% true. Can always tell when the races are on by the people wandering around town...

Also; just buy another suit. You can never have too many suits!

Who said anything about being sober?
