I think they figure it's like the weather predictions, e.g. "This will be the hottest/coldest/wettest/snowiest/driest summer/winter/month/weekend/day ever/in X years"

I have tried to talk seriously on this topic before. However UFO = alien is in far too many minds (both believer and non believer) this causes the conversation to degenerate almost instantly....so I don't bother anymore.
