Just received a letter from the CSA saying "although my account is closed, I may still owe money"
I stopped paying six years ago and received a letter around that point to say I was free, or words to that effect.
How in the hell can these people screw around with people's lives and get away with it? My daughter's 25. Surely any monies due should've been claimed back when the case was closed!
I'm confused and annoyed at the same time.
 
You make it sound like setting aside money for your daughters needs is/was a chore.

this is a rather harsh comment considering his daughter is 25, i think it is reasonable to assume that after 19 years old the financial obligation to pay the other parent should cease.

The CSA are being disbanded and replaced with Child Maintenance options and the child maintenance service. I expect this is a catch all letter being sent out to anyone who previously had a case with the CSA

are you not just worrying for nothing? could just be a generic letter - I mean if they haven't asked for a specific amount

if they do then surely you check what you owed and what you paid and if you do actually owe some money because you're in arrears then what is the issue, will surely be a minor sum else you'd already be well aware of it

either way you've presumably had a generic letter or you've underpaid by a trivial amount that some bean counter wants you to make right - hardly anything worth worrying about :)
 
I dunno if that kind of stuff could be statute barred after 6 years but it might be just them doing a token letter to keep any potential claims for money "active" incase.

It's because the CSA is being closed. They are addressing everyone in their DB - you've got nothing to worry about. Ignore it.
 
I paid what I was required to pay until my daughter's 19th. There were arrears initially because it took so long to contact me, but I paid extra each and every month. The CSA sent me a letter to say the case was closed and now they may reopen it. That's my issue, why say it's closed and wait several years before making further contact.
They should investigate then contact, not the other way round.
 
Completely a law unto themselves. Statute barred is not there for CSA they can overrule ANY court order and law.

If the case was closed try arguing it like I did. They chased me for £7.45 and I had the usual threats following my dispute (send you prison etc).

The best part is after private arrangement my ex wanted more as I was willing to provided it was given in direct finance eg me taking littlun out for school shoes, uniform and even a summer wardrobe and winter coat. I worked out on the calculator told her my plan, she disagreed and contacted them. As soon as they told her she was being overpaid she closed the case. She now knows to forget asking for any favours.

Some women use the CSA to hit their ex and according to a lot of FOI requests I had sent off there are literally thousands and possibly tens of thousands of dads out there who are paying for a child that isn't there's.

They also come down like a suns mass on men and for women like an aerogel feather. I've had a few run ins for myself and friends and it is a horror organization.

It's an ass covering form letter.

Its hust so that noine whos recived one can use it as a "but look you said it was settled" evidence


You already have a letter saying your case is finished so your eom
