Who's to blame for Harambe the Gorilla death?

Well, if the headline says they were then it must be true! :p

Behave. The parents were stupid and negligent, but it was a mistake.

Unavoidable mistakes are excusable, because they are unavoidable. This is one that could easily have been avoided.

You don't tell a drunk driver who ran over someone "oh it's OK mate, it was just a mistake, take more care next time ay lmao".

I have to laugh at all the outraged posts on Facebook kicking off about one gorilla... yet said people probably eat beef, which is responsible for vast swathes of the rain forest being destroyed. Also not to mention the general mistreatment of animals that happens within the industry.

Love how people are outraged about 1 gorilla, but if you bring up facts surrounding horrors of the meat industry their eyes glaze over.

Like seriously, if you want to pretend you care about **** don't be selective about the stuff to get outraged about. At least be consistent in your viewpoints. I feel like slapping people some days...... reminds me of Cecil the lion again.

there isn't necessarily an inconsistency, just because you're a militant veggie or whatever doesn't mean anyone who isn't can't still care about animals

MEAT IS MURDER!!!

Erm. Eating an animal because your hungry is natural, its called a food chain. That cool gorilla died purely because of human stupidity, and that gorilla is not going to feed some starving kids so your argument is completely unrelated.

Lawsuit culture made them shoot the poor creature. Had nothing to do with the safety of the child. Even if they handled it a different way and everyone walked away safe, the parents would be like Omg Omg you risked my child's life!!!! The stress you've caused, Sue you...Sue you!!

In seconds? He was in there a lot longer than that.... Seemed to be protecting the kid and the screaming idiots were freaking it out.

Why did they not keep sufficient size tranquillisers in the room next to the cage? That's a basic H&S given.

So idiot parents and idiot zookeepers.... So just idiot Americans and arrogance and guns?

By in seconds I'm talking about how quickly it could turn from seemingly non-threatening to kid in multiple pieces not how long he was in there - in the event it did turn nasty it would be all over extremely quickly.

If you're in a zoo, especially near a semi-open enclosure (i.e. not completely closed off by glass, fencing etc.) containing dangerous wild animals, parents should keep kids under control at all times.

if you're stating they were negligent then that supports the argument that they should have to pay the Zoo

Is it foreseeable by the parent that her negligence would lead to the death of a gorilla? I don't know, but I don't think so.

Also, is there any further information on the time frame of this? The boy is four, yes? Unless he's tied to the parents constantly, it really wouldn't have taken long for this situation to develop.

I know you can't. Because the point I made goes over your simple level of thinking.

RARRR RARRRR A GORILLA GOT SHOT TIME TO LOSE MY **** **** HUMANITY BRO!! HUMANS SUCK!!!!!1111 BUT DON'T WORRY... I MYSELF DO ABSOLUTELY **** ALL TO IMPROVE THE PLANET DERP DERP!!111

Your first line screams of irony.

The second, well I just don't know, bad Monday I guess?

Cool story bro, either way i'm right.

People kicked off the same way at the Cecil the lion drama. I laugh every time I see the outrage brigade in full swing at certain things. But they will totally gloss over way more important issues.

Maybe the day people become outraged at real problems we'll actually see change. Until then I can laugh at the selective attention certain things seem to get.... such as an accident at a zoo. Now everyone overnight has become a conservationist on facebook. Next week it'll go back to normal and all be forgotten about.

Quite frankly the parents should be held fully to account.

Certain Gorillas are far more rare than people realize. Dependant on the type of gorilla he was should reflect.

In my opinion there should be some form of penalty for the negligent and lazy parent. Even if it is something as pedantic as lifetime ban from any and all zoos for the pair of them.

I don't really understand it mind - all the zoos I've ever been to in the western world have had wire mesh anywhere a child could possibly slip through as well as the more substantial fencing. Doesn't excuse the parents though.

Parents. They should also pay whatever the fine is for killing a protected animal species.

Sad day for everyone involved.
