Next door is a rented property and we are on the edge of rented / owned.

Latest new neighbour, the best yet ironically, has recently bought a puppy.

All night we can hear it whelping away and I had my suspicions.

Wandered into their garden, un-gated and and suspicions were conformed. They are locking the puppy in the garage all day and night.

Tonight whilst I was out in the garden, he knew I was there and semi apologised if the dog was causing a nuisance. It has been whelping until 2am every night for the last 3 days.

Apparently he has bought it for the kids, but it is too much of a pain and hence why it has been garaged all day / night.

His quote was "what else am i supposed to do with it" and then spouted crap about music during the day. Typical reactionary crap.

I was calm, told him he can't do this to an animal, all over a high fence, no face to face.

What is it with these ******** who have no clue ????

FFS, i know reasonable conversation with him won't work and what the **** am i supposed to do ?

Seems you have no option than call the RSPCA. "What else am I supposed to do with it" = alarm bells ringing.

This will undoubtedly put you in a bad standing with your neighbours mind, so be prepared for that.

If you are worried about any act of reprisal by calling the RSPCA (understandable) mention that you know "somebody" who would like a dog and offer a new home?

When you pick up the dog, drop him off at the local RSPCA shelter?

I assume the guy isn't thick enough to not be able to piece together a discussion about the dog with a neighbour and the RSPCA turning up

I'm not certain that the conditions you describe would actually be considered neglect or cruelty by the RSPCA.

They are, however given the recent exchange the OP described, I would imagine it would not take too long to work out who was likely to be the snitch?

Who cares? I'd rather have a slightly miffed neighbour than a dead/suffering animal on my conscience.

I say slightly miffed because he obviously doesn't care about the dog.

I just want peace and this is my family life with rental scum compared to an animals life. I know what would come first.

Any way, decision made, I will go around since we have now "chatted" and explain that it is not good enough and offer advice. No doubt it will end nasty, but what choice do I have especially when my wife works nights.

**** i hate renters, no respect. (flame me)

RSPCA are not in it for the animals. I'm sure they have some people with their heart in the right place "on the front line", but the organisation itself cares more about prosecutions that actual animal welfare :(

Don't go in guns blazing. Call the RSPCA, have them investigate - with any luck the dog will be rehomed and you'll both live happily ever after.

Animals themselves locking a dog in a garage day and night, what the hell is wrong with people.
