Pretty sure my new Gigabyte GTX 1080 is busted

Sounds like coil whine, could be combination of your PSU and your new 1080 or it could just be the card itself.

You could return it for a replacement or cap your frame rate.
 
just watched your video wow i feel bad for you dude, the coil whine is frankly unaceptable

id get the card exchanged, ive had good experience with MSI cards.

not what you expect from a £500 plus card
 
Have you tried fastsync? Coil whine sometimes comes when the card is serving up a ridiculous number of fps like in fairly static menus.
 
Yeah that's coil whine, My 780 Windforce does it sometimes in GTA.

Performance won't be affected but the noise will remain.

send it back over £600 no way i would i be happy with that...would you keep a brand new car with it whining at you ....
 
Devil's advocate here but that wouldn't bother me, nor would I even know something is wrong. Alas. It's a lot of money and if it's something you all say ain't right then I guess you can try return it.

Bare in mind that what you hear in that video in terms of fan noise or coil whine will be an order of magnitude less than what it would be like in real life.

Coil whine is a real pain. I use open back headphones and my Ti's are screaming if I open the case door. With it shut I can hardly hear a thing over case fans etc.

I'd send it back if it bothers you and opt for a card with quiet chokes on like the new strix. Supposed to run quieter aswell with 3 fans.

I had coil whine on both my FE 1080's so seems it's still an issue even with new gen stuff.
 
Hi Pascual.
So, a couple of things. Make sure the Xtreme Engine is the latest version from our website, we updated it yesterday to the correct fan profiles.
About the coil whine, if you could try the card on a different PC it would be good so we could rule out a problem with the PSU.
If the problem persists and you want to return the card please let me know by PM so we can help you get allocation for a replacement card from your retailer.
