Pointless legislation to make politicians look good rather than actually change anything. Banning the AR-15 because it's of aesthetics and leaving pistols and the Mini-14 because it traditionally has a wooden stock. It would solve nothing.
Look at all the other mass shootings and massacres that occurred when the previous ban was in place (1994 - 2004), it even includes the most infamous shooting event, Columbine.

This was a provision pushed through by the NRA to stop gun sellers from having to face any liability for their actions. The NRA realised that there would be valid claims against sellers for different reasons.
As for your post above, it isn't a ban everything or nothing approach. It's possible to start with something. In fact as I'm sure you are aware they were banned from 1994 to 2004 because they found their way into drugs trade. A ten year manufacturing ban isn't enough time to remove the supply from the market for the discernible effect it is trying to achieve. It should never have lapsed.

Well it was a good speech, but all the goddy stuff at the end? Meh.
As mentioned it's his 15th speech while he's been office surrounding the exact same circumstances, there's nothing else he can really say that hasn't been said many times before.
Again, why are people thinking that gun control would have stopped this guy? especially as it is looking linked now to another arrest of a guy with a car full of weapons heading to a gay pride event in West Hollywood in the past hour?
