Just watching the news now and they're saying that apparently he'd been going to the nightclub for something like 3 years, and talking to various people on gay dating apps and sites for a while as well.

It sounds like he was pretty close in how he thought to the various Christian preachers and politicians who are disgusted by the "dirty gays" in public and make a huge thing about it and how evil it is, but in private are themselves LBGT.

Again, if you want to be religious then good luck to you. As long as it doesn't become an evil cult more than a religion its all good. Freedom and all. Christianity while i'm fairly certain its as ridiculous as Islam in many ways, at least it doesn't typically do more harm than good. Christian aid as an example? Wheres Islam Aid? Yes there's problems with it too, Catholics vs Protestants. But i do not know of any instances where a Catholic has actually chopped the head off a protestant and hung it up in front of a camera pledging his allegiance to the cross ! Or gone around with a semi shooting up crowds and crowds shouting in the name of JESUS CHRIST !!!! cos they're non believers. If you can't accept that Islam is the problem, then you're the problem !

Polls show that there's very strong sympathy towards radical islam in the western world. When it tips the scale of bringing more bad then good, then its time to quash it ! Personally i don't care how. But like facism and nazism was shutdown, so should Islam be. Not welcomed like Hillary is spouting? Or Merkel is doing. Its not going to end well for the Western World. This is just the start of how things are going to end up for us all. There will end up being car bombs and mass shootings on a monthly basis. The Western world will end up being like Israel or any of the Arab countries if we continue to welcome people of this religion into our weak welcoming culture.

Look at this list for the amount of Islamic related terror attacks in just 2016 !!!!!!!!!

The list is pretty long.... Find a list that shows ANY other religion's related attacks in 2016 please. Then come bakc and tell me the religion of Islam isn't a problem.

How about you actual looks at the facts or what Islam teaches? and what on earth are you on about " Christian aid as an example? Wheres Islam Aid?"

Instead of me listing many Islamic Aid foundations, I will tell you what the third pillar of Islam is "Zakat" (support of the needy). The Five Pillars of Islam are the framework of the Muslim life. Instead of linking bigot websites which show I suggest you go read up and educate yourself.

That's it guys, we've reached peak scorza. Why are we even talking about guns in a thread about an American gunman who killed a huge number of innocents using a gun?

Now that it appears he was also gay or at least had interests in homosexual spots and hookups at the very least, it'll be interesting to see how the right wing contingent on this forum will respond. Will they double down on the Muslim rhetoric or add in the homophobic commentary as well?

Sort of the biggest fault with all religions, is that they can be interpreted however the practitioner feels. If they relevant Gods actually intervened with a bit of "Yo, you got that all wrong Broham!" things would be different, but humans gonna human, and twisting things to suit us is one our primary strengths (and pretty much how we got to the top of the food chain... by actually altering the chain!).

It now appears the guy was a repressed gay. He had been in the club a few times picking up guys. He seems to have had that same problem seen with the religious right in America where guys getting all sorts of 'treatments' to make them non gay as has been shown on TV several times. He was bi-polar with aggressive tendencies according to his ex-wife. Not terribly much to do with IS. I think he decided to do this deed and claim to be IS so he could become a martyr which gives him benefits in his religion.

It's becoming apparent that this incident was in the name of some loser being unable to live with his sexuality. Making half-arsed phone calls claiming to be part of an ISIS cell were just attempts of validation. Or the ravings of a madman - much like the German rail incident a few weeks back.

And the interpretation can be used as a political tool by the powerful. You can use it to gain an "army" and justify all sorts of things.

ISIS etc think of themselves as proper\true Muslims, as apparently they follow Islam\The Quran the way it should be followed.

So in the eyes of ISIS etc all you non murdering Muslims are not proper\true Muslims because you don't follow Islam\The Quran in the correct way.

And

Who is right

Perhaps it's a way for a persecuted minority to separate themselves from organisations like ISIS using their religion as an excuse for evil acts?

All many British/western Muslims see in newspapers about their faith is constant negativity, they hear people on the street and in the news claiming Islam is backwards/ whatever people on this forum like to call it. They see trump wanting to ban people from the US for being Muslim. I think that's a legitimate excuse for being sensitive on the subject.

We hear from many people on this forum that "why don't British Muslims stand up and speak out against Islamic terrorism", yet, when they do - Facebook posts in this instance - it's called waffle.

Unfortunately they can't "win" with a certain subsection of society. Damned if they don't, damned if they do. And all most people want to do is continue with their peaceful lives, and not be defined by their religion, which just so happens to be being used as an excuse for terrorism at the moment.
