** OcUK HAS 21 CUSTOM GTX 1080 MODELS READY FOR PRE-ORDER !! **

Well I got a response to my webnote regarding my system build and it appears that system builds are not at the head of the queue. All the received gaming x cards were sent to preorders and I'm at queue no. 16.
Fingers crossed on another shipment this week!

2ghz out the box on the gainward card sounds great. Shame it is so ugly! Not like you have to stare it anyway though I suppose.

Some systems got Gaming X cards, in queue order with regular orders as I've seen them being built by our SI guys today. :)

It feels like in 2016 the tactic is:

  1. Pre-sell a £600 tech product, and set a launch date
  2. Build hype
  3. Wait a few weeks after launch until you actually make/ship them..
  4. Hype intensifies
  5. Profit

Oculus, HTC Vive, EVGA... I'm looking at you

You missed no 6 off your list

[6] Once hype has dropped back down, sell same item for £50 to £100 less

My GLH arrived today. Boost clock hovered from 1980-2025, 70C 35% fan speed running heaven benchmark. This card is unbelievably quiet.

GLH/Gamerock is probably the cooler to beat right now. I'm happy with my Gaming X but if I was given the choice and everything was in stock, I would pick either GLH or Gamerock (it helps that I don't care about how the card looks, I just want the best performing, most quiet cooler).

That GLH does look good, probably lower temps and noise than EVGA FTW due to the gigantic cooler, but meh I will keep my FTW order as the differences should not be huge and EVGA warranty. The palit jetstream was best / one of best on 980ti as well.

Agreed on warranty though the biggest thing for me is that I can't fit a 2.5 slot cooler and my 2 120 mm case fans blowing onto the GPU together. Think I will be better off with the not so great air cooler but have a huge amount of extra air running over the card

Just a bit curious about the whole shebang. From what I understand it there was a NDA from Nvidia on the GTX 1080 which ceased release day. As in the day you could actually buy one if in stock or preorder. So everyone and their uncle could not talk about it or allow preorders.

So everyone in the know knew this was the day of sale yet stock was low. Now was this due to nvidia releasing the manufacturing kits to manufacturers really late or was there some shortage of components?

It just seems to make no sense whatsoever that come release day there is very limited stock so Nvidia's immediate sales will be really low. Few weeks later still no AMD cards so why didnt they as in Nvidia put the release back a couple of weeks to allow stock to be created?

Makes no sense from Nvidia's perspective and doesnt show any kindess to the customer other than creating a fever over the product and upsetting the paying customer.

I pity OCUK staff having to deal with all the queue movement.

In case its of any use, I ordered an EVGA 1080 SC today and have been told that the ETA is now 1st July rather than the 24th of June that the site quotes.
