OcUK Theme - have your say!

A few people have said the blue is a give-away, can someone explain it to me? I use a lot of disparate systems at work, and the blue doesn't stand out - but I do use an ad-block to remove the ads and the OcUK logo at work.

I agree the decrease in +1 / agreed posts would IMO enhance the content of the forums.

I think they're suggesting their work mates or bosses can see quickly that they're reading the forums rather than working because the page stands out from a distance compared to other sites.

If the vote system does come in can downvotes not be in it. Leave it as a positive reinforcement rather than "I don't like you or what you're saying". We all know how heated threads can get and how sensitive some people can be.

As for blue pages it's not really a standard colour of the internet so would probably catch someone's eye rather than a white page someone wouldn't look twice at. Probably quite easy to modify the black theme to do it but for white instead.

The blue is rather different to anything I've ever used in an office environment. A white theme with plain text and, ideally, a less forum-y look would be good.

As I say, it's not really for me as I'm not overlooked or otherwise particularly monitored, but I can imagine it being useful for some

I'd rather this forum continue to be patched for security and stay the same with the trust system getting some love instead.

I think you need downvotes to balance out debates. We don't need a circle-jerk of reinforcing beliefs - this is a somewhat diverse forum (nerdy tech interests aside), so getting balanced feedback is to be expected. It's not like we hold back on the verbal dissections when someone says something stupid.

Gotcha. I think it would be a +ve vote only with no chance to "unlike"? Is that what you're saying?

Fair point. It's been noted (as it is in the thread). :)

vBulletin 3.x has been EOL for 5 YEARS.

vB3 also requires an archaic version of php, which, in itself has its own problems.

Time to move on.

Most of what I want has been mentioned already: new, updated software (mostly for security); mobile theme (or Tapatalk plugin); I could deal with a like/helpful post system, just don't do rep with up- and down-votes.

My personal idea is to revert moderator ranks to what they should be:

Commissarios to Administrator/Admin
Dons to Super Moderator
UBs to Moderator

Men of Honour to Outstanding Contributor

I also am keen on simplifying the rank system and potentially adding a rep style system or a "like" system.

However those are just my personal ideas / suggestions and hope you come up with your own.

Agree with all the above points and that the back end of the forum seriously needs updating. A mobile version would be fantastic too.

I also feel if Commiss/Dons/UB/MoH etc are changed that the rest should follow. I think this is a bit archaic now since it was originally implemented and OcUK has long outgrown this.

Is it possible to have the page auto update when a new post is made, so no need to keep refreshing in live sport threads etc?

Thats a pretty fair point. Although it does still fall foul of the "I dont like you". I can think of a few posters petty enough to go around downvoting each others posts :D. I've never looked into it, it may well be auto-moderated to stop such a thing happening.

That is indeed what I meant. Although Cheesyboy has me reconsidering it now.

a female gangster, a overweight gangster, a transvestite gangster, a soviet attack helicopter gangster

this should ensure the forums appeal to all genders.

I like the idea of a like system / rep system - Preferably the like one... rather than rep... Or both could be good, but yeah. I'd go for the like one first.

I like everything else you've said...Shame there's no movement on the avatars, but I guess I could have a image in signature.

I agree, a like system would be much better than a rep system. You can like a post and move on. No posters saying "if you found this helpful please rep". At least with a like you kind of get the idea that the post is helpful.

Love the paging idea. Would be good to have a notification if your post is quoted with the forums being so big.

Maybe MOH can have have their own signature? But have them follow a set of rules, like make them Black & white or something so it fits in. If they have earned this title, they should get their own pic?
