I've always had AMD GPUs previously so changing cards has been very simple. Now I have an Nvidia GPU, I presume that there are steps to follow to switch cards. Here's a shot at the steps I assumed would be necessary but I'm computarded so all input welcome:
- in bios, set to onboard graphics
- shut down
- plug screen into mobo port, remove GPUs
- boot to OS and remove drivers (any special software for this or just the standard uninstall process?)
- insert new GPU and reboot.
- install new drivers
- change bios to GPU

Am I nearly there with that?

No need for all of that. Grab Display Driver Uninstaller, run it and follow the instructions for booting into safe mode, tick the box for installing a new GPU and run, when the comp restarts, shut down - remove old GPU, place new GPU in and install latest NVidia drivers :)

I'm doing it even simpler: uninstall driver etc., switch GPU, run CCleaner (registry and regular cleaner), install driver reboot. Never ever had a single issue.

I applied for a step-up with EVGA yesterday to the non-SC version of the 1080 from the 980Ti FTW I bought - and just today all the non-FE were removed from the list! Hoping EVGA honour the step-ups that got through before they were removed as it'll mean I'll get an ACX 3.0 1080 for around £545, which is around the price of the clown cards, so that's pretty decent!

Having done the same thing 3 weeks ago I'm helping you hope...

Spoke with EVGA and they said:

"We had to remove this model as an option for the Step-Up because of the huge demand.
Your Step-Up however is of course still running and we will of course inform you should there be any issues with it."

I asked for confirmation if I'll still get the 1080 ACX 3.0 model - I do t want anything else.

Jesus, what case are you using out of interest, I have no doubt now the airflow is at fault.

I could kiss you!

I have corsair obsidian 550d silent. It has a noise filter over the intake fans. I have removed this and my temps have dropped to 49c in firestrike ultra. So relieved.

Thanks very much for your help.

edit: Just realised how stupid I have been, that noise filter should have been removed when the fans were installed!!!

That's crazy how I decided to apply for it less than 12 hours before it was taken off haha

Though I did manage to check my queue position - 1768... It'll be a long wait

So anyone regretting getting a 1080?

Not really looking to troll the people who bought one, just curious as I was on the fence myself, and opted to wait for the 1080Ti equivalent.

I'm actually considering returning mine. I upgraded from 980 Ti SLI to 1080 SLI.

It was a very noticeable upgrade - maybe SLI shows an even bigger improvement compared to a single card upgrade as you get the extra frames from both cards and added together it was a nice increase. The fans are also much quieter (all my cards were reference FE etc).

However I still have my 980 TI's and although i could try to sell them for £300 each I'm struggling to justify the cost of the new cards. If money isn't an issue then I definitely recommend the 1080, but for me the money could be better used elsewhere.

Sold a 980Ti a while ago, so it won't be a big deal, most of all I just can't stay any longer without playing

With onboard gpu I ended up playing Mobas...
