Brexit thread - what happens next

No it's not, its a few racist thugs, stop trying to blame it on Leave voters.

No one is blaming Leave voters. It's a blame squarely placed on the individuals who believe it acceptable to behave in such a manner and on the campaign that fuelled it by providing a platform on which they could feel validated.

Behave. There's has been a massive increase in open racism. The closet racists feel validated now.

I haven't personally witnessed any. Not denying the Britain Firsts types might be shouting a bit louder a the moment but I'd like to see some figures to show there has been a "massive increase" in racist incidents. I guess we'll have to wait for the police figures.

However, I feel many butt-hurt remainers are using these isolated incidents, as they did with Jo Cox, as a disgusting tool to create even further divisions in our communities. The hysterical view on this and all but advising anyone not white or English born they should be scared to leave the house is a horrific attempt to create a self fulfilling prophecy.

well of course they're not representing everyone on the leave side, the problem is that it shows that many of those votes have been based mainly on the fact that "immigrants will leave" which is completely stupid and sadly some of those extremist(can we call them that?) take it too far and actually attack verbally or physically.

I my self come from Lithuania, jeez I've been here since 14, all my working life, college, school etc was done here I feel right at home and I have nowhere to go back, everything is here but I'm not sure how I'd handle my self if someone told me to "get back to my own country" :o I think I'd be pretty upset and share the experience with my friends.

I like you. We can go ride bikes together :D

Indeed, surely if previously closeted racists are now making themselves public, we can actually deal with the ****s?

I refuse to believe that this referendum as turned previously tolerant people in to sudden massive aggressive racists.
Those committing these acts have always been, and probably always will be.

Well that's all right then.

As long as a huge rise in racist incidents is only caused by people who were already racist, there's no worries.

There's no losers in that equation.

No one's turning a blind eye, it's illegal and wrong, report it to the Police.

that's not the point. The point is that these 2 thinga are correlated. it's not just a wild coincidence that in over 25 years I haven't received this kind of abuse, yet suddenly after a vote which was heavily leverage on "take back control" which goons have interpreted as send them back, it's like being back in the early 80's when I had grown adults shouting at me while doing my paper round to **** off home.

I went into Stevenage town centre on sunday as normal to do my shopping and had 3 sepparate incidents of **** off home, to the point where my missus (English) said come on lets go we can't stay here.

Unless you have lived through that appalling time in the early 80's where this stuff was rife you have no idea, concept or understanding of what it feels like. SO don't start lecturing me on what it's like or the fact that it's ilegal and to call the police. The fact is it shouldn't be happening in the first place. But now that we have effectively validated the racist element, it's going to get worse.

How have we allowed it to happen? If we voted to stay in these racist retards would still be racist retards and it would only be a matter of time before they find another reason to act out on their stupid views

Were you a campaigner?

I didn't say leave voters, I said leave campaigners.

does anyone have a link to support the statement earlier that 7% of leave voters would change and that 4% of remain voters would change

I'll just leave this here as the thread is moving too fast for me to keep up for today.

"Remember, it didn't start with gas chambers. It started with politicians dividing the people with 'us vs them'. It started with intolerance and hate speech and when people stopped caring, became desensitised and turned a blind eye."

Stop dismissing very real problems as 2 skinheads with a banner. Instead you should actively be condemning it.

Reality check. It is the people of Scotland that decide if Sturgeon and the SNP rule in Scotland not Boris or Osborne. Davidson has come up with very little going forward, her main battle cry in the election was vote for us to be a better Opposition. She was helped by the meltdown in the Scottish Labour Party and the continued LibDem demise.

Yup. And Sturgeon is the only major UK leader who actually seems to have a decent plan going forward after the Leave vote. While Cameron was going back on his word, Boris and Gove were realising what they have done, and Corbyn was facing down the enemy within, Sturgeon came out, gave a cracking speech, and set the wheels in motion to pursue her agenda. The idea that she's come out of this badly is simply not credible. Davidson, I think, will secure the Tories as the opposition in Scotland; Labour have no answer for the SNP.

Stalemate?

Not surprised. Right now our indecisiveness and lack of fully functioning government is causing mayhem with the markets. Really just making things up as we go along. If formal discussions are not to start until we enact article 50 ( which I still hope we don't) it at least lets us get our own house in order.

The leader of the Westminster government will have an important role to play in any challenge to the SNP in Scotland.

Davidson has led her party well, especially in the recent elections where they made big gains. She could well prove herself to be a Unionist totem north of the border, given that she has traction with the left as well as the right.

he entire plan is FREEDOM - ignoring her own democratic referendum.....

The point is more that with the entire world watching these reports, the UK is seen to be dissolving into this sort of behaviour as if it's acceptable as a result of the campaign and referendum result so it's effectively ruined our international reputation as a tolerant, progressive nation that welcomes people.

And makes people feel unsafe and unwelcome in what is their home.

And Tourists etc. not a great advertisement.
