Blasts and gunfire at Istanbul airport...

Why are Westerners still heading to Muslim countries for holidays? I went to Tunisia years back, superb location, but wouldn't touch the place with a barge pole now, spend the tourist dollar in Europe instead, or preferably the UK.

We found Tunisia to be really sinister and dangerous at times. Morocco on the hand though, that place was awesome. Never had a single problem or felt in any sort of danger there at all.

Ah nice, another attack. Turkey is a horrible, scum-bucket of a country, can't believe anyone thinks of holidaying there anymore, especially with a family.

Yeah we looked at the foreign office website when we booked, and our decisions were based purely on the basis that everywhere was high alert. Now we are hoping the foreign office give a warning to say that it's not safe to to travel for unessential travel. None the less we have to face the possibility that we will lose our money. Maybe our own fault but that doesn't change our situation.

I would like to add that my heart goes out to all those affected, and R.I.P to those that have lost their lives in a mindless and senseless attack.

Can't understand why people holiday there. Or places like Egypt. Especially with families.

Oh yea it's cheap... Not as cheap as some peoples family lives it seems...

I got an offer for a heavily discounted trip to istanbul a few months ago but declined to go because of the likelihood of something like this happening - i know it wasnt in istanbul but still....

Doesnt Morocco have a huge theft problem?

Or are they all in Madrid?

You have to have your wits about you in most touristy places (London included). It does of-course vary depending on where you are, i.e. Barcelona I did feel the need to walk around with my hands in my pocket, but that may have just been me being paranoid from reading lots of stuff online. It certainly wouldn't stop be going again.

(By theft I assumed you mean pick-pockets, not muggings etc).

from wiki
Academics, journalists, and several heads of state have noted that Turkey actively works with ISIS through funding, supplying weapons, allowing fighters to freely move to and from Turkey, and providing healthcare to wounded ISIS fighters. It is also claimed that Turkey buys oil on the black market from ISIS and that Turkey smuggles weapons to ISIS fighters.

not much else to add

Can add Egypt to that list as well. Wouldn't go there again if you paid me to.

Full of thieves and beggars (and that's just the hotel staff) and people trying to extract as much money from you as possible. Shame really. Turkey and Egypy have such rich and storied histories. Now being reduced to ... this.

RIP to all who died.

Apologies, didn't mean that sound as offensive/personal as it did. :( that said, if I was in your position the holiday would have been cancelled months ago.

No problem. Yes, I get your standpoint and as time has come closer to going I have felt the pressure to not go, but my reasoning was that the attacks were far away from Antayla. Now if it comes to it I will take the hit on £4000 and learn a harsh lesson.

Most Turks are normal decent hard working people just like most of us, not only are they being killed but their economy will suffer massively as tourists stay away :(

I've been to Turkey (Oludeniz, Fethiye) 8 times and going again in September. The flying is the one thing that bothers us with all that's happening but always felt perfectly safe while we're there.
