The majority of the population or the majority of the voters?

The difference is literately 17 million

So if 17.whatever million vote leave
16million vote remain
And 17 million can't be bothered either way (democratically abstain...whatever).

What have a majority of the population voted for? Or what result has a majority?

Is there an official word for the head clown of a circus? Farage can be that.

Edit:

The whiteface (or white clown) holds the highest status in the clown hierarchy and is the oldest of the clown archetypes. In modern times, when whitefaces perform with other clowns, they usually function as the straight man, "top banana" or the leader of the group. Whiteface clowns use "clown white" makeup to cover their entire face and neck, with none of the underlying flesh color showing. Features are then usually painted on in either red or black.

Haha, oddly appropriate.

I bet Boris really didnt expect it to go that way. Whoever deals with EU exit is essentially committing a political suicide, he jumped that ship.

Can we just have the argument in just one thread. Its getting tiresome seeing the same 5 people argue. If it was a discussion the content would be insightful.

Let's wait till 2 years after article 50 is invoked before we declare him savior or sinner.

Using the last weeks figures to show positives or negatives is a total own goal.

But twst you can't "wait and see" with some of the remain posters here. They take an instant snapshot. They still think the FTSE 100 is down to 4000

Yeah and leave campaigners think the dollar rate returning to 140 is an achievement..... It crashed in Feb when the ref was announced. Either side using current figures is pointless.

Wonder how many people will short the £ once a new tory leader is elected. Like allthe way through the leave campaign people said you don't know what will happen. Well imo that still applies until article50 is invoked.

Just checked. Ftse 250 still way down and dollar still 1.33. Yep we are still screwed.

What?

I think its fair to say that 17 million people is not the majority of the populace which is 65+ million.

Not arguing that it was an unfair referendum in a sense that some people didnt vote. Just that saying the majority of the population wanted an out vote misrepresents the general attitude of the population

Everyone legally entitled to vote had a fair opportunity to do so. Those that didn't vote had chosen to allow the rest of the nation to vote on their behalf.

But I made the comment that remainers don't want to wait... They want to see the doom and gloom now and imagine it is a permanent doom and gloom... Your post a case in point ironically

Cause it dropped on the vote, only came back up when Boris said he wasn't standing and all experts say once we file article 50 it will drop again.

Even Leadsom who was a big player the the brexit is saying the economy will drop for a few years.

I'm sure it was you complaining all leave voters are thought of the same way and here you are doing it with remain voters again.

I don't want any doom and gloom at all (in my mind that's my reason for voting remain!) but it's here and all things considered is expected to only get worse. That's the problem, there's no light at the end of the tunnel.

I've stated a few times now that I would love to be proven wrong.

Did you vote tory? Do they have a majority government? Is that because a majority voted for them? Is 24% a majority? Should we have a redo on the general election because 76% of people either didn't get what they wanted or didn't bother to vote?

Best advertising for PR ever. Well said. British politics is wrecked.

The problem with a lot of remain voters, is they see the leave vote as a jump into the dark rather than a step into the light.

it is their own negativity which will cause future problems, if we want to do well they need to stop the gloom and pull themselves up by their bootstraps and forge ahead. Casting doubt and gloom after the first hurdle will only mean losing the race in the end.

The reason its a leap into the dark is that there's no detail at all, or even a rough guide, as to what comes next.

As an agnostic I feel very much like the leave voters are in a faith based position. Believing in something without any evidence that it's true. It's frustrating to me.

Even under WTO rules we would be in nowhere near as bad a position as people make out. We can also finally have a seat on the WTO council.

One other major upside is that we don't have to implement the higher external common tariffs that being in the customs union forces on us, meaning produce from outside the EU will be cheaper under WTO rules.

I just noticed your signature, it found it a little funny since the sentiment of the signature and what you posted are at odds with each other.

Really?

I don't think it is. You can argue it was favoured by the majority of the voting populace which voted but that percentage seems to be ever dropping as more light gets shed on the possible outcomes of leaving.

No, that is you and the rest pushing an agenda as though millions of leave voters have changed their mind and now want to remain, it is a joke.

I have heard others on here say the same as above with no proof, it's just hot air. And you know it.

So people need to stop clinging onto the idea that millions of leave voters have changed their minds, no they have not, simple.

What?

That is the figure of the total people who voted out, from the amount who actually voted, ~33 million, those that didn't vote dont get a say in it and you cannot include them in your skewed calculations.

Lol

I am against another referendum, i am not saying the vote should be overturned and i am not saying that it is unfair.

All i am saying is that stating the majority of the population wants something when it is not a majority, is a misrepresentation of the population.

If you had said voting populace, then it would have been correct.

I am not saying that it doesn't count, i am just saying the use of the word majority was wrong in that statement.

You are making an argument over a single word, population, you know he clearly meant total voters, which again leave was a majority of, you cant bring non voters into and argument that revolves around the people who actually bothered to vote.

Correct. But he said that is was what a majority of the population wants which is incorrect.

You would need 32.5 million votes for that.

No you wouldn't, that ~65 million includes children, how many million is that?

Plus there are others in the 65 million who are not allowed to vote, i think that the actual figure was around 45 million who were eligible to vote.

So people need to stop bringing the 65 million into this, because it has no bearing on the result at all, it's just another troll argument.
