Ghostbusters Reboot

I can't link to it directly because there are swearies in the comments. But Ghostbusters Reboot: Sony Hits Back at Fan Backlash on youtube is an interesting watch.

Very interesting:) I just don't understand how there seems to be such a disconnect between audiences and studios? I don't have a problem at all with an all female cast but everything I've seen has seemed more like a parody. Everything at the moment seems more tied to instant $$$'s than engaging the audience beyond that. Perhaps this wont be as bad as it appears but bad mouthing your potential audience seems insane??

This version is way better :P

Thanks Jaffa I needed a laugh:D

I'll never look at Stay Puff the same way after that:p

To be fair, there was a fair amount of stick just because it was a female cast.

Just look at the start of this thread, when "female cast" was all we knew.

It does, however, also look a bit ****.

You do understand that the reason people were angry about an all female cast was precisely because it gave the impression that this film is what we'd get.

The second I heard it was going to be an all female cast this is the exact film I expected, a dumb ass film that they believe will appeal to female audiences.

When you make a film with the intention of making the best film possible, great, when the primary intention is to fill a studio quota, to outwardly appeal to a specific audience, particularly in times where some specific PC agenda is being pushed and the film is being made to appease it.

Somewhere at Sony in a meeting some idiot said, hey, there is this big loud feminist wave going on, lets pick a random project and rewrite a script as all female with female jokes to appeal to what we believe females want, it was at that point this film became a failure.

Not going to watch this.
Loved ghost busters as a child but this will just destroy the memories and will be a complete mind fcuk.

A crappy reboot doesn't destroy your memories of the original :) If anything, it makes you grateful to have the original and you appreciate it even more.

Did the Robocop/Total Recall remakes destroy anyone's memory of the original classics? Not for me. I just thought they were crap and that was that.

I actually enjoyed both films, thought they were well done despite aiming at a different audience from the originals.

I think that is the point though, both of those were done to a good standard that even if the originals had never existed it wouldn't have mattered.

This new ghostbusters film, regardless of the first is just slaptasticly dire and isn't going to be something you can rewatch.

I think we're gonna have to agree to disagree regarding those two films :)
OK, I probably wouldn't have minded them so much if the originals had never existed.

With you on Ghostbusters though.

Many of my friends hated Robocop because it wasn't like the original, the odd thing is though all of our kids love it. It certainly wasn't as adult as the original, but I think the original was tainted a little for my by the following films/tv show special thing.

I had the ghostbusters trailer on showing my wife and my 4 year old, the 4 year old said "that's stupid, won't be watching that" and wondered off to watch some bloke on youtube open a surprise egg :D :D Other than hardcore feminists I don't know anyone that is looking forward to it.

I'm looking forward to seeing just how **** it really is.
It's hard to be disappointed when you have no positive expectations.

As for those two remakes, the only positives I can give them is that they had good SFX/production values and Beckinsale was entertaining, along with little glimpses of the old quirky Keaton. They're watchable, sure.
Other than that, they were devoid of any of the soul, atmosphere and magic that made the originals such classics, just like this Ghostbusters atrocity.

The original Robocop/Total Recall/Ghostbusters/T1+T2 etc can't be tainted by any sequel/reboot/spinoff to me.
They will always remain the classics that they are, no matter what rubbish they come out with next.

However, I reserve the right to lose my **** if/when they try and remake The Lost Boys. Somebody will pay for their blasphemy.
