So, who has reverse shift on their bikes and is it worth it? I'm tempted to give it a go as it's only a 5 minute job.

Plus hopefully it will stop those annoying 1st - N moments.

I've not got GP shift set up but if 1st to N is happening enough to annoy you then check your clutch and chain adjustment.
It'll always happen if you're just not being positive enough with your change but it can be made worse when things are out of adjustment.

Oh it probably only happens once every few days. It's probably down to me not pushing up enough.

You could always try adjusting your gear lever down a little, means you don't have to physically move your foot as far upwards when you change.
I have mine set so I can basically just stick my foot under the shifter without actually lifting my toes and that's enough to pop it up.

Also, check the ball bits on the rod are lubed. Mine went dry on my Hornet once and caused all sorts of weird issues with shifting. If you lube it properly, it'll go in to gear easier (if it's currently dry). You can take the whole thing apart, give it a good clean and re-lube quite easily.

Race shift on the track with a bike that has up and down quick shift is amazing!

Long corners where you need to upshift mid corner is so easy pushing down rather than trying to hook your toe under and pull up!

Mine got replaced a month or so ago and I took the dust boots off and packed them with grease to replace the light smear they had from the factory that would have lasted all of a week, a sealed unit would be a much better idea or use a solid linkage like MX bikes.

Yeah it's not a small job, it's cylinder heads and cams out I think, a lot of that will be labour.

I think my local Aprilia place quoted around £350-£400 for a 'big' service which includes valve clearances on a Tuono.

No need to remove anything other than the rocker covers on the SV AFAIK it's just grating because if I had a garage it's actually quite a straight forward job but like you say it's a fair bit of labour due to having to strip bits off to get to the engine and I can't trust the weather not to turn on me half way though leaving me ****ed!

They wanted £457 if I wanted the full service that they come as part of  nearly £500 for a service on a basic Suzuki!?

Yeah that's what I meant, cam/rocker covers, not cylinder heads! :D That's a fair whack for an SV650, like I said an Aprilia main dealer was no more than £400 for a full big service inc valve checks.

To be fair that is a dealer quote but then I need somewhere that provides a courtesy bike so that rules out most independents.
May just have to rig up some form of cover in the garden and crack on then spend £375 on beer to either congratulate myself on a job well done or drown my sorrows when it goes pop.

Just got hold of my usual place and they're quoting a rough figure of £175 as long as they don't come across anything too painful in terms of seized bolts or anything, that's much more palatable and closer to what I felt it was worth.

Emailed the first garage back asking if there's any movement on their price, £200 of movement is pushing my luck but it's more as a "Are you flipping mental!?" message.

Edit: Well they came back with £300 so a saving of £75 just for calling them on their daylight robbery.

To be fair my usual garage is a Yam dealer in the same way the expensive place is a Suzuki dealer so they're not proper dealers in the same way the Honda dealer in town is i.e a full on "Wolverhampton Brindley Honda" they're more indys who supply a single brand as their "main" brand if that makes sense so there's no reason for the first ones labour changes to be double almost.
