So I have been having issues with a GPU I purchased from the Members market it kept on hanging whilst in certain games. I was advised to get MSI afterburner and increase the power by 10% and also underclock the GPU as the factory overclock was too much for the GPU to handle.

any how after doing all of this I was able to play games without any issues, that was until this morning when I turned on my PC the fans on the GPU are at FULL power and there is no display.

Is the GPU gone? anyway to fix it? any diagnostic tools I can use? can I use my onboard graphics and connect the gpu and test it for faults?

System specs
GPU - KFA2 GTX 770
Mobo - Asus Maximus VIII hero
PSU - EVGA G2 650w
CPU - i5-6600k

Is your motherboard running the latest bios? What graphics card did you have in previously? Did you do a clean install of Windows or run display driver uninstaller?

Its a brand new motherboard with the latest bios, Its the first gpu I ever put in the system (the gpu is 3 years old though)

I installed the drivers, but when faced with hanging issues I used DDU to uninstall and install and re-install drivers incase that was causing the issues.

Is there no way to test the gpu in my current system as I dont have another system to check it.

You could probably go into your bios and set onboard as your primary GPU then once your in windows connect up the 770 to another monitor/tv. Set your desktop to extended then drag stuff into the desktop extension that you want to test on the 770.

Its how i used to run my setup when i wanted my TV running from my onboard and my monitor running games.

Won't make a difference if the GPU is dead though.

Yeah just got back from mates house, tried it in his computer it did the same thing, the fans were spinning way too fast and no display. I tried a different PCI-E slot but still nothing, the graphics card fans are super Loud and no display on any of the screens I even tried hdmi instead of display port and still nothing.

My computer runs super smooth when connected to onboard graphics.

Is there a way to reinstall the GPU firmware?

RIP 770.

Upgrade is now justified. RX480 Nitro or a decent 970 can be had for £199. Unless you've £400 disposable. In that case 1070 is your best bet :)

Might be worth contacting the manufacturer.
They may offer something, maybe even a repair (although probably not cost effective)
You have nothing to lose.

I don't think you will fix the card yourself.

Yeah as upsetting as it is the card is dead I have tried everything to revive it...Time of death 18:41 - 10/07/2016

the 1060 is round the corner right? was thinking I wait and upgrade in a few weeks. that was the plan from the beginning but I was going to sell the 770 to part fund it. Back to eating beans for a few weeks whilst I save up.

p.s thanks for all the help guys much appreciated. This community is awesome.

Thank you

Begin CPR 30 5-7cm depth, 2 resue breaths and repeat. Locate defibrillator! Adrenalin, we need adrenalin!

There's still hope!

Beans and rice.. Plenty of nutrients

Haha yeah man, Thought I would give it a whirl I had nothing to lose but yeah wasn't expecting miracles or anything.

Selling off some old bits of gear might even have the funds for an awesome 1070 in a few weeks.
