Windows 10

I wouldn't call geforce 6 and 7 series graphics cards really ancient hardware.

probably like 4 series amd, it works but only fully after a week and it'll slip in a driver via update but only automatically

Update doesnt work for one machine here, Im trying via a ms account used on both os and that will transition a license over:confused:

Wish they'd strip all that **** out of the OS by default and let people install that kind of stuff as services via the Windows store if they want it - kind of like that stuff is "supposed" to be done.

Been on 10 for a few days now, but have a couple of questions.

How do I turn the language bar off permanently? I turn it off under settings->turn system notifications on or off and switch input indicator to off, but on reboot it's back again and turned back on.

Also, themes. I really dislike the flat look of win10, I hate the "flat design" that has infested everything over the last few years and normally find a theme that doesn't use it. Is there a way to get aero or something similar back throughout the system, including the start menu? As I really want to get rid of the awful flat design.

Thanks.

I don't know any other provider that offers the same kind of services that doesn't try to enable them by default?

In fact, most don't even let you turn them off. Try using any Google services without Google seeing all the content.

For stuff like Android depends a bit on the vendor - some try to obfuscate the ability to disable those "features" and some come with more enabled by default than others.

End of the day just because others do it doesn't make it right. A lot of these kind of "value added" additional services, etc. used to come on the extra companion disc i.e. Windows 95 and there is a reason why basically no one installed them.

Do you have more than one language installed? setting the UK one as default and fully getting rid of US can sometimes be a bit problematic in 10. IIRC you need to get rid of any additional ones to permanently turn off the language bar.

The only way to get something aesthetically pleasing out of 10 is with third party ui replacements like classic shell but with the constantly changing nature of 10 highly likely an update will break them at some point.

EN-US is installed as well as the UK one. I'll have to look into removing the US one.

Switch seems a little pointless for everyone outside the US then, as it'll just switch back on due to having local setting + default en-us. Just seems really dumb, if I've set it to off, then I want it off, windows shouldn't take it upon itself to just flick it back on.

Classic shell looks nice, will probably give it a try, even if it does break at some point, it's free, so nothing lost.

Thanks.

I've been on Windows 10 for a few months now. I still use Windows 7 at work and must say I really miss Win7 at home. I've had some stability issues thanks to dodgy drivers that never happened in Win7.

I'm mulling over going back to Windows 7 but then I'd lose DX12 support.

I'm sticking with 7 on my main machines for the foreseeable future and will dual boot 10 on my gaming PC once something comes along that I want to play with DX12 - heres hoping games use Vulkan instead as dual booting is a bit of a pain.

Since the last batch of updates, has anybody been getting "Windows Module Installer" working in the background for about 2 hours? On two PCs this is happening.

Cannot say I've noticed. Eating CPU? I think mine restored to idle pretty quickly on both machines. Haven't updated the laptop.

Thanks for this.:p

I used Revo unibstaller, set to date for installation and removed the "ADs"

And someone thought it was a good idea to have forced automatic updates :S

True. Or updates you don't want or need. :/ HP printer drivers that keeps trying to install but cannot as I have the manufacturer drivers installed.
