I have a EVGA G2 650W PSU but the VGA power cables are only 8pin and 6pin from the power supply but the 980 Ti requires 2x 8pin connector, how would I power it?

There are 6-pin to 8-pin cables which you can buy, and from another thread on here people seem to think that those will work ok. Or you might be able to buy another 8-pin cable for your PSU if the PCI-E power cables are modular, but be careful which one you buy because some are specific to certain PSU manufacturers.

You should have 2 x 8 pin connectors (6+2)

CONNECTORS

- 1 x 20+4-Pin ATX12V/EPS12V
- 2 x 4+4-Pin ATX12V/EPS12V
- 2 x 6+2-Pin-PCIe
- 2 x 6Pin-PCIe

Yes, the PSU comes with two of these cables,

So I need to plug both to the modular PSU and leave the 6 pin unplugged to power the 980 Ti?

EDIT: misread the pictures.

You do not need adapters.

Have a look at this review, it gives clear pictures of the different cables:

On the G2 650W, you get two of those cables. Plug each cable into a separate VGA socket on the PSU and then plug the two 6+2 plugs into your 980Ti.

I've got exactly the same setup on my G2 750W PSU (except I bought a braided cable kit).

Yes, he might have adapters with the card, but he doesn't need them. The G2 650W unit comes with two separate VGA cables. Each modular cable has a 6-pin and a 6+2-pin connector.

MY MSI 980ti has 2x8 power and I was by mistake running on 1x8 connector for a long time. It worked mostly fine. I suspect you would notice little difference between 14 or 16 pins being connected, but best fill them up.
