Ghostbusters Reboot

LOL!

There's probably a few video games that deserve this treatment too.

One thing that I noticed in 3D that never have before, the wide shots of the city looks like tilt shift shots, they look like miniature models.

Just got in from watching this...

... it was good! It was definitely very funny in places as there were lots of collective laughs.

Interestingly, all the things people were hating on the film on triumphed for me. The actors were all likeable and it didn't feel like it played to stereotypes in any way. The aspect that did let it down was the climax of the plot and end section of the film seemed to get noticeably clumsily - this was a directing / script thing, maybe? Started off very strong though.

The nods to the original were unnecessary too and I almost think it would be better off without them.

All in all though, good fun - I would agree that it definitely wasn't terrible after all... :)

The amount of skulduggery that went on behind the scene of this changing from GB3 to a "reboot" is incredible.

Well, I took onboard the comments from the people who had actually watched it in this thread....

Thanks

It's absolute drivel.....if it wasn't for the case I was just making out with a cute little hottie on the back row, it would have been a complete waste of money :p

So went with the missus to watch this last night, cinema empty but you would expect that on a weekday.

On a nutshell, I fell asleep as I was that bored by it. Some parts were funny but for me a monumental waste of money and time. Missus seemed to enjoy it tho, but then she's into all these crappy chick flicks.

1/5 for me and even that 1 is being gracious.

I watched the original on sky movies last night, no matter the reviews I don't want to warch this, I loved the originals so will happily stay in that bubble :p

Too many people saying this. I really don't get it? It's like people are jumping on the AVGN/Cinemassacre bandwagon...

Reviews are all over the place:

I personally don't like McCarthy and find her irritating in the few movies I have seen her in so its not something i would pay to see.

Definitely some paid for reviews out there (as always) but I don't doubt many will enjoy it for what it is.

I still view the gender swap approach as a naff way of rebooting it

If I hadn't followed that link I'd never had found...

Some people just get on well with obvious, in your face mainstream comedies.
You know, the type of people that make a point of laughing as loudly as possible in the cinema at all the jokes they've already seen in the trailer.

Now that metacritic has opened to the public, they've hammered the film. I wonder how the professional reviewers can have such a different opinion of the film. Not that 60 percent is stellar from the professional reviewers, but there's a disconnect when the public rating is 2.4 out of 10.

I really wanted to enjoy it, but just couldn't get on with it.

2/10 without even comparing it to the original. The 3D and special effects are some of the best I've seen, but that's probably the only redeeming feature (except for the references to the original, which were a nice touch, but also just highlighted how bad this one was).

Went to Vegas for my 30th and met Angry Joe in an after show meet and greet with Penn and Teller. It was random, but he was a good guy. Exactly like his YouTube persona :D

So constantly shouting over the top of people when they're talking? Just about every video he's in with other people he seems to have to be the loudest one there and constantly interrupting so his point can be heard above everyone else's.

We met him in the queue to the taxis outside and I said to the mrs that it was "angry joe from YouTube" as she rolled her eyes. Anyway, he was with about 5 friends but he was more than happy to chat. His mannerisms were exactly like his channel and was generally animated when he spoke.

Anyway, back on topic.. I have no interest in seeing this, but the promotional stuff they've been doing in London underground looks cool. Movies have so much impact these days... can you imagine telling someone in 1984 that tube stops would be renamed because of an american film about ghost hunting? lol no.

I've just got back in from seeing the 3D version this morning.

Loved it. Loved the first two as a kid. Love this one as an adult.

All four of the new team are great. Kate McKinnon as Holtzmann is brillant.
The 3D is well used and the CG for the ghosts is top notch.
Plenty of cameos and little nods to the originals for the fans, but original enough to hold it's own.

The trailer dreadfully undersold the film. This isn't a Bridemaids Ghostbusters mash up.
It's a proper Ghostbusters film and well worth the 20+ year wait.

I concur.

Just got back from watching it. Without rolling a critic over it, if you imagine what, how and what for, made the film such a classic, they've made that film over again.

It's a proper ghostbusters film, in all it's stupidity.

It'll never go down as a classic, because these are the times.... but it's a solid 7/8 a visual treat, for the most part well written, and well cast.
