Windows 10

No it isn't I said the results would be interesting to see from an objective point of view to see what people would really choose - I didn't speculate in which way people would choose.

But its impossible to pull an objective view from such a heavily subjective test.

Give 8 users a choice between Vista and 95 and Vista would look like a runaway success. That's not in any way objective.

It would certainly be telling if people choose Windows 95 in that context.

End of the day I really don't care if Windows 10 is a success or not - everyone has personal preferences when it comes to OSes and I'm sure there are plenty of people that Windows 10 works for just a shame it couldn't be better outside of a fairly narrow focus when an OS in the position Windows is in should enable the user not force them down a specific usage path.

I wish there was a way to limit Window 10s download bandwidth. Sometimes my ping goes mad for quite a few minutes while it grabs all the bandwidth it can for its downloads/updates. Much prefer to be able to tell it the amount (or priority) of its bandwidth!

Again I think your being narrow minded. Most people will just do what their told and don't care about customising the OS in the way people like you do.

Businesses managing IT systems and application developers love widespread consistent platforms. Most of the groups of people Microsoft make money from would love for Windows everywhere to be one single design forever and never change. Just developing apps to try and look like the current Office style has been a pain recently, with it changing every version.

That doesn't mean it is a good idea for MS to go down that route - neither does it mean they can't have options - consistency of the user experience doesn't mean you have to forego options or flexibility.

Diarrhoea's quite consistent ;)

Quite an intellectual discussion, then you bring it down to my level! :D

With W10 getting in through the back door ( no no, not that one ) there are a fairly huge number of users, who were perfectly happy with 7 or 8 and now they are running 10 and quite a large number of them now have issues in one way or another.

I myself always go the direct fresh install approach, however, my youngest sons PC is chugging along and that was an upgrader, with it starting with Vista then 7 and then we let it go to 10 and we have NOT had any issues at all with it, so itsclearly a random thing.

My own main PC has had nothing but issue after issue mainly audio related with 10 and I have persevered, but enough is enough... The issues have simply eaten away at any love I have for W10 and being a linuc user too, I only actually need windows for some games, and given that all the games I care about I can now get running with minimal effort in Linux, I have absolutely no reason to stay with Windows, and so I will go back to 7 with the family PC so the ydont keep asking me to help when the sound goes iffy, and I myself will just use my Linux PCs instead.

Plus, I just hate how 10 ( and 8.x too ) looks - the windows etc... I liked Vista/7 and the glass stuff.

Anybody had their windows 10 machine freeze on the revolving circle at startup? The problem affects a few of our machines in the office.

I've had that while upgrading a Laptop... In the end I had to reboot it for the upgrade to complete.

If I recall it happened twice during the upgrade...

I do hope Miscorosft don't try and big this Aniversary update up too much. Theres nothing groundbreaking in it at all.

About the biggest thing is being able to Shutdown without being forced to install any queded updates. Oh, and the big blue Windows background on the login screen has gone.

Other than that, nothing really to write home about.

You are kidding right, there is a shed load of improvements.

Got a list? the MS splash page thingy for the Anniversary edition is pretty weak - a couple of "big" features that really aren't that exciting or useful and a couple of features that will be very Marmite.

I've had this feature on both insider and normal ring on all my installs using my live/developer id (not checked on other installs) for awhile I assumed they'd already rolled it live to the normal builds.

A lot of it is improvements to Cortana and supposedly fixes for the start menu becoming unresponsive, etc. some new integration features like pen and console stuff which will appeal to some people and some quality of life changes for frequently done actions that I'm not sure who they are aimed at as they seem to be changes for changes sake and don't actually fix any problems I've heard anyone talk about.

What? But I like that login page. It's the best default login background for Windows so far (subjective, I know)!

I guess there will be a way to bring it back...

I definitely don't love it. Maybe the upcoming update will improve things I'm not overly fond of. I really miss Aero, not a big fan of monochrome tbh :(
