I know that maybe this should live in another section but I'm sure loads of people ask this before they upgrade their cards etc so here goes.

I'm going to see an IPS 165hz 1440p ROG Swift on Wednesday night - I've been after a 1440p monitor for a while, but will I really notice the difference coming from my 120hz 1080p BENQ?

I've got a 980ti under water at 1500/8000 so should have enough grunt for BF1, battlefront and bf4 which is what'll mostly be playing.

How good is 1440p really..?

All thoughts welcome

Big difference for me. Juggles gone and a much better image overall. I went to a 1080P screen to test my 480 and hated it and really did show the lower IQ.

Having gone from a 24" 1920*1200 screen to a 27" 2560*1440 screen theres a huge difference. Everything is considerably sharper and I would liken it as similiar to the move from non-retina to retina screens on things like the iPhone.

If your going from a 27" screen at 1080p its an increase from 82PPI to 109PPI so quite a jump. Even if you are on a 24" 1080p screen its still up 92.

IPS is a fantastic tech alone. The jump to 1440p will give you a huge increase in desktop space and is noticeable with less jaggies while gaming. It's pretty much the sweet spot for a 980Ti.

Definitely worth it, personally i also think 1440p is the sweeetspot for the 980ti. Will handle battlefront and bf4 fine, bf1 though is still a bit unknown.

totally worth it but do yourself a favour and get a good monitor. 144 Hz, 2560 x 1440 cannot compare to anything in 1080. I could not go back.

If thats what you have your eye on go for it, I would jump straight away no brainer if I was wanting just a single screen. However have you considered 2 more 1080`s and going surround. I could never go back to a single screen not even 4k. 5760x1080 is far more pixels but a 980ti can handle it. Battlefield 3 gives me always over 120FPS to max refresh rate on medium on my 3 benq 144hz 27 inch screens, I could drop to mainly high in custom high still be above 80FPS tweaking the AA and stuff ect. Of course ild love to get what your considering x3 or 4k 144 hz. But its going to be a long time before the horspower is available to run that.

1440p? Yes, it's a nice to have. But IPS over TN? An absolutely huge improvement. Really detest using a TN monitor after an IPS one.

Depends what you play though. For most games I'd take an IPS but there's no way I could play Overwatch on one assuming it's a 60Hz one. Of course could get one of the high refresh rate IPS ones but they're expensive :P

TN panels have improved hugely, IQ really has come on leaps and bounds.

Regarding OP question, hell yeah no brainer. The move from 1080 to a higher resolution and higher hz rating is fantastic. I jumped to 1440p 144hz Freesync about a year ago, it's a huge difference and improves gaming ten fold. When I go back to 1080p gaming on 60hz panel I end up giving in within 10 minutes, it's just night and day different.
