Wjndalum or what he is called is supposedly on his way to liverpool, Doesnt do much for myself and rather we spent on solid midfielder then a player from newcastle who like rest of team did sod all for a year and went into hiding.

The defender i know nothing about so i cant judge but we need one since ours are dropping out injured all ready :(

I would much rather we strengthened our back line, with Firmino, Coutinho, Mane, Studge, Origi, Ings and Lallana in the front half of the pitch , I'd like us to turn our intentions to the back half. I am dubious of the Wiljnadum deal, doesnt strike me as a Klopp player and I half think that its talk designed to push a deal through for him to some other club. Dont know anything at all about this defender guy but he's cheap and has Bundesliga experience, so cant complain

I hope I'm wrong but it looks to me that Wijnaldum (and the Polish lad before) are being signed rather than a CM. It seems like Klopp isn't going to buy any old CM for the sake of it and if the right player (Dahoud it seems) isn't available then we'll make do with what we have. By signing Wijnaldum/Polish we'll have more than enough attacking midfield options which frees up Milner and Henderson to be soley used as midfielders - and of course Wijnaldum too can fill in at CM too if needed.

It's not ideal and even after signing Wijnaldum, we've got enough money to sign a CM if the right player becomes available but our CM options look like being: Can, Henderson, Milner, Grujic and Wijnaldum. I wouldn't rule out Lucas staying too.

I think it's safe to say that's not the case. The reports all came from Liverpool based journos so we can safely say the news has been leaked from Liverpool's end.

I know we say right player available but lets say Dahoud for example, we have the money so if it took say an extra 5M to get him now instead of waiting a season surely thats better than getting yet another AM that is "able" to play CM?

We need a CM and LB as priority right now not players who are also "able" to play elsewhere we have enough of that as it is.

Id rather have a player who is solid in one position than keep having players who can do more than one role.

I'm sure if it was simply a case of an extra few £m then the deal would be done but all the talk is that Borussia Mönchengladbach are point blank refusing to sell him having lost 2 midfielders already this window.

And I don't believe we're signing Wijnaldum just because he's versatile. Playing a 4-2-3-1, we're going to need 5 players to cover those 3 roles behind the striker and currently we only have Firmino, Coutinho, Lallana and Mane. The fact that he's versatile is very helpful though because in a season where we might not even play 45 games, we can't afford to carry a huge squad.

I could be wrong but I just can't see us signing a CM unless we get the right one*. We're not desperately short in midfield and the signing of Wijnaldum gives us even more cover. As I said, even if Allen and Lucas left, we've still got 4 CM's, Wijnaldum and a couple of youngsters.

*Like with the Estonian CB, it's possible we could make a short term signing in midfield but I can't see us spending a significant amount on one unless it's Dahoud.

Are Liverpool not looking to make a 'big' signing, or was that Mane? Squad looks a bit on the weak side to me, but admittedly I don't know much about some of the lesser known players they've signed.

Unless we can get Dahoud then Wijnaldum and a LB looks like that will be us done for the window. CM and LB aside, I don't think our squad is too bad.

We showed last season we can compete with anybody on our day but we didn't score enough to pick up consistent results. Our lack of goals was a result of terrible luck with injuries to our front players (and not just Sturridge) - Ings missed nearly the entire season and also all of Coutinho, Firmino, Origi and Benteke missed more than their fair share of games through injury too - and a lack of options in the attacking midfield roles. Too often Allen, Henderson and Milner were having to fill in there because we had nobody else. Bringing in Mane and possible Wijnaldum gives us more options and hopefully goals, and touch wood we can't be as unlucky with injuries as last season.

Iinm, in terms of number of days missed through injury Liverpool players were the 2nd most injured last season.

edit: Yep, Newcastle had the highest, Liverpool 2nd and Utd 3rd. Leicester, unsuprisingly had the best injury record:

Not once have i seen any suggestion from United that they want to sell Mata. I see lots of fans making assumptions but that's about it.

How often do you see any club openly admit to wanting to sell a player? It almost never happens.

You're right about a lot of people just assuming he'll be sold but these assumptions are based on the fact that Mourinho's ditched Mata before when he was the clubs' player of the year 2 years running(?). It's fairly obious that Mourinho doesn't rate him.

Could you not do with another striker Baz? I think you'd have to assume that Sturridge will be injured more often than not. I forgot about Ings but I'm not sure he's really top 4 quality.

Sturridge's injury record is exaggerated by the last 2 seasons - prior to that his injury record wasn't too bad. The end of last season gave you a glimmer of hope that he was over a lot of his problems - Klopp made him train x amount of sessions in a row before he brought him back into the side and when he did come back (mid February?), he stayed fit until the end of the season.

Whether we need another striker or not, it's not something we're desperate for. We're likely to only play with 1 striker more often than not and with no Europe, 3 strikers plus Firmino and Mane is enough. Unless we're going to sign a top class striker, which we're unlikely to be able to, then I see no point buying anybody.

Because he's not worth 50m perhaps?

Yea but when I said he was over priced, a terrible buy, a luxury player at 37 million many many disagreed with me and said he's one of ur best players.

Now as he's not in his last year of contract, I,e I've the Dortmund guy and in his prime years shouldn't he be worth a hell of a lot of money if he really is a great player?

So why is no one bidding huge amounts for him?

I think he's a good player, maybe not 37m but you bought him in Jan, there's usually a premium on that, and he was from another big club as well. It's just whether he fit's into your style of play. I wouldn't be surprised if he stays and does alright under Mourinho. Like it was mentioned earlier, he was Chelsea's player of the season twice.

Wenger really needs to pull his finger out!

Yep I'm seeing a lot of tumbleweeds around the Emirates lol:p.

I really want to believe that Wenger is going to buy us a decent striker for a change but it's the same **** different summer type of scenario.

I read on sky sports earlier that Juve won't pay Higuain's release clause and we are somehow in the driving seat. The other day it was being rumoured that we have offered Le donkey and 50mill for Higuain but today Girouds agent comes out and says they haven't even spoken to Napoli lol.

Twitter has gone abit nuts now linking us to Gary medel, we need a proper defensive midfielder (I'll never rate lucas as highly as masch he was the better of the two) so makes sense but I haven't seen him play in a long time don't know how he is rated these days

I can't see Arsenal fans accepting it if we don't do any serious business before the season starts - there are too many players we need to get rid of, and so man areas we need to strengthen.

The only positions I want us to strengthen is a striker and a CB to replace the aging BFG.

We have a midfielder, Xhaka who looks pretty physical but we definitely need a better striker and a CB. Not sure if Gabriel will be any good but until Wenger plays him more often then we won't ever know.

I can't see where else we need to strengthen, we do need to ship a few deadwood players out ie Walcott and Ox to name but a few.
