It dims the screen when the phone is upside down. Means you can put it in your pocket and walk to collect the km on the eggs.

Meh, not to worry, grabbed a guide:

There are three types of eggs, each with an attached distance requirement you have to meet before they hatch – bear in mind that you can’t cheat by driving (unless you’re going at the speed of a milk float), so you’ll need to walk, cycle, or utilise some other form of really slow transportation to travel either 2km, 5km, or 10km to hatch them.

Seems it doesn't register if you are moving too fast. On the plus side driving to work in the built up areas where I'm going slow does register and I get 1 km per trip :)
 
I know someone who put his phone on a turntable to help cover distance.


I do not know if this was successful.
 
This thing has 0 appeal to me. As in really no interest whatsoever.

However, if it means kids are being active then it's a good thing. Shame that to be active people need a mobile phone, but I guess it is a sign of the times.
 
Tried it for all of about 15 minutes and realised how addicted i'd get. Not getting sucked in with this one! Cards were bad enough...
